Okay so i have 2 dogs a staffy cross bitch (precious) and a staffy boy (bently) Precious is 1 and bently is 8 months. about a month ago my bitch came off her first heat and after a week or 2 her nipples became big and she was being sick on a morning :/ over the past few weeks she started looking more round, we are assuming she is pregnant although we did our best to keep them apart through her heat. i have read that you should keep the bitch away from male dogs through pregnancy but whenever they are apart she cries untill she is with bently and my sister visits daily with their dog (bently's brother). they all usually play for ages but precious has become calmer recently but the other dog keeps pusing him self on her and tormenting her. am i doing the wrong thing letting them been together. any other pregnancy and puppy info appreciated.
    Thanks :)

Chances are she is expecting, this is probably going to sound mean but get her to a Vets office and have this pregnancy terminated and the dog spayed, She is way too young to be having a litter of puppies. Plus there is hundreds of unwanted staffies in animal shelters and more destroyed every year.

Any good responsible owner would terminate this pregnancy, If you were having trouble keeping them apart then the male should have been housed with another family member or friend until her cycle had finished.

Sorry if i sound harsh but i see to many people who think a dog that is pregnant will just get on with it.
Not many take their Dams to the vets for a full check up, before mating, during pregnancy or after whelping..

some have no idea what to look for if something is wrong, or what to do.
They do not take the mother and the whelps to the vets office for a check up after the delivery jsut to make sure all is well.

I can go on and on as someone who used to breed GSD i do not take this lightly.

weve took her to the vets and they have said all seems well they think shes over one but not much and have said they wont recommend a termination as it may cause her to not trust us :/
thanks for your reply i really appreciate it and will keep an eye on her and try keep my male away for the time being.
also it sound silly but as my male is the puppies father will he be aware that he is or will he not understand whats happening lol :/

I think you need to seek advice from another vet as NO vet would ever say that terminating would cause her not to trust you.

All vets will do a spay termination especially since this dog is under 2 yrs old.
The male will have no idea he is the father of the puppies.

No offence but in such a young dog you can be sure things can and will go wrong are you prepared for all this, Can you cull any puppy that is born with missing limbs, or cleft palate, warter on the brain can you identify and problems with the birth?

the vet told us because she is a cross she has a bigger pelvis and she has grown quicker than a pedigree staff. i have a member of family that has bred dogs for longer than i know so she is giving me as much help as she can and will support us through the birth.
i appreciate what you have said but i cant terminate the puppies i wouldnt do it to my self so why my dog. i know your trying to make out im a bad owner and would like to see my dog suffer but that is far from the truth.

I am not trying to make you out to be a bad owner, But what your saying is all untrue, No Vet would ever say, terminating would cause the dog to not trust you, no vet would say because she is cross breed that her pelvis is bigger and she has grown quicker, Because she is a cross breed a vet would have agreed with termination.

There is someone on here that still breeds and i will get her to come and comment as she knows alot of vets.

Either the vet is BSing you or you are to us. Not trying to be mean but any reputable vet that told you that BS needs his license revoked. I feel bad for your dog and the pups to come if that is the quality of veterinary care that is available to you.
