I have an older cat, she's about 14, and she has never displayed any signs of sickness until about a week ago. I noticed that she seemed really thin. She was too weak to stand up and had mucus running from her eyes. I rushed her to the vet who pumped her with fluids and put her on an antibiotic. He said she would get her appetite back in no time, but she hasn't! I have been giving her her medicine every day, and I even bought this special high in calorie can food to give to her. She licks at it for a minute or two and then just walks away and lays down for hours at a time. I don't know what to do? I did however notice that she makes a weird grinding sound when she eats, I am wondering if there is something wrong with her mouth making it too painful to eat? Please help, I'm only 19 and live alone. I don't know what I would do if something happened to her, I can't watch this anymore. thanks, kristen IP: Logged |

my cat is 9-10 and having similar problem.. had him since i was 10 years old.. he's my bestest friend.. he's skin and bones.. jsut curious as to how your kitty is now.. IP: Logged |

First off, you must make sure the cat remains hydrated, or a host of problems will result. Try giving kitty several syringes full of Pedialyte liquid (without the needle of course), in its mouth. You can get this at a grocers in the baby food aisle. Also, try baby food, meat and vegggie mash, given the same way. Try mixing broth in it for palatability. It is imperative you seek another veterinary opinion. But keep in mind, it may cost a bit to find out just what is indeed wrong. I hope this helps. God bless. IP: Logged |
