I am new to owning cats and have three declawed & spayed females. The biggest one of the three pick fights with the other two, which are sisters, on a daily basis. Will water work as a long term solution? Any ideas? IP: Logged |

It's doing what is called the pecking order, but some act in a cruder fashion, and yeah, I would at least clap my hands and say "no" firmly, a spritz from a water bottle but NOT in the face, might send a firm message, and give it more attention as well, gosh those females can be such, well, we can! LOL!! You don't want to make a new problem if you spritz cause you might not be able to approach the cat at a later time,it might run away from you. And it may hate bathing too. Going gently but firmly. There will be some demeanor from time to time in a bad sense, but overall getting it under control by spritzing or hand clap and "no" couldn't hurt. Then set back. Discipling at the moment and then letting it "sink in" the cat's brain. Let her know you love her later. Separating the cats to me does not solve the problem, that female has to know there is and isn't acceptable behavior. Just like kids. I once put a nice cat collar with a bell on my obnoxious cat, and he was so preoccupied with the collar and bell as he walked all over, he forgot about fighting! And,the other one was so curious about this new thingee on him, noseying up to him, that they ended up friends! I took the collar off after a week or so, and they were inseparable. Good luck now. I have found out that putting 50% vinegar into a spray bottle with water seems to really help. They don't like the taste of it at all. Works much better than just water and won't hurt them. Be careful not to get it in their face.. IP: Logged |
