Hi! I have two cats and a 12 mth baby. We are looking to introduce a dog to the household sometime in the summer when we will be home most days. Can anyone give me some tips on introducing a puppy to a house of indoor cats? To give you some background, we live in a split level house with about 1500 sq feet on each of the two levels. We have about an acre of land. One cat is docile while the other (part siamese) is scared of EVERYTHING except me, my husband and the baby. Seems to take better to other animals than to people. We are looking to get a dog with a lab/german shepard/husky type and size breed from the local shelter. I dont' worry about the docile cat (Miko) as much as I do the other cat (Ash). Any suggestions? If you get a puppy it shouldnt be that much of a problem. They will probably hide for a few days but then start checking out the new addition. If they go at the dog let them go as with any addition if there is no blood or serious marks let them go they will work it out. If you get an older dog it may take a little more time but most shelters specify if the animals are good with cats. Good luck IP: Logged |
