My kitten is limping slightly, although he can run, play, eat etc. I took him to the vet and she said it's either an infection from a bite or a sprain. he's now taking antibiotics. The thing is, she recommended confining him in a cage for 1-2 weeks so he won't aggravate his leg. I can't bear to do that to him because it makes him miserable even to be locked in a room. Is it necessary to do this? IP: Logged |

I understand your empathy regarding a small enclosure- I would have trouble even keeping my cats in the house- as I believe it is every animals right to feel the Earth beneath their feet. I don't think it is necessary to lock your cat up in a cage. It sounds as though his leg is not in unbearable pain and, by limping, he is already trying to stay off of it- most likely, it would heal even without the antibiotics- just keep an eye on it and leave part of healing "know how" to your cat-who I'm sure is fully aware of what happened to his leg and knows how to help it!
