Hi, We have to move to coast to coast soon. We have 2 4month old kittens and were wondering what is the best way to transport them. We had been thinking of driving cross country and wanted to know how we could do it without traumatizing them too much. Our other option is to fly and we were wondering what to do in that case. Thanks for any advice! We appreciate it! IP: Logged |

Hello! Congrats with the new kittens! My sis brought 2 4 month olds from California to Colorado. They did really well in the car, they slept mostly. It was no problem for them. In the hotels, they just set up a card board box for litter. If you don't think your cats will behave as well, a vet can give you sedatives to knock your cats out for a while during driving. Good luck! ~Heather~ IP: Logged |

If you decide to drive, you will want to set up a small litter box in the car too! (I've made the mistake of not doing so a couple times!) Also, make sure they have water available to them- especially if it is warm out! Good luck. IP: Logged |

HI! I traveled from coast to coast twice with my two cats via car and they were fine. However, at the time they were 4 years so their bladder/bowels were much bigger than a 4 month old kitten. I had tranqualizer pills which I used on the first day and after that I didn't need them. I made sure I didn't feed them right before the trip (we left early in the monring) in case they got car sick. I offered them water every few hours but found they never drank until we got to a hotel. The same went for a litter box. The poor things held themselves for 12 hours once. But seeing yours are only 4 months, I would encourage them to go even if it means stopping for an hour. My only piece of advice is to keep them caged while you are driving in case (god forbid) you have an accident. In addition, if you do let them out of their kennel, keep a harness on them with a lead in case they get out of the car. Good luck!! IP: Logged |
