Hi! I have a 5 year old cat that likes to lick soap...all soaps. She's been doing this for years and I can't figure out why. She hasn't ever gotten sick from it, despite the dye, perfumes, etc., but I'm wondering if she is lacking something. Does anyone know? Thanks! IP: Logged |

Cats don't have the ability to understand if they are lacking something in their diet or to seek out foods with the lacking nutrient. Maybe there is just something about soap that attracts her. I have one that loves to chew cardboard wheather its a box, an old record album or a brown paper bag. :} IP: Logged |

You're right, they don't have the ability to on their own determine what they need, but they're body will naturally crave certain minerals and vitamins it is lacking- so take it in to the vet and stop letting her lick soap. My mother makes soap. It has LYE in it. Although it's been alright so far and the lye isn't the same in soap because it "cures" for weeks by just sitting in the dark, I'd get her to stop. Or maybe she just wants to be clean. Cats are clean animals.... IP: Logged |
