We found a kitten approx. 3 weeks ago that we think had been mauled by another animal - eyes swollen shut, puncture wounds in several places and loaded with fleas. We do not know how old it was but feel that it was approx. 4 weeks old. It was in very poor health. We nursed it with a bottle (with much difficulty) and it now appears to be very healthy and happy! However, I contracted ringworm and have been treated for it with success. Does it mean that the kitten also has ringworm? The Vet told us to give it the Hartz brand Once a month Wormer with Piperazine Adipate. I did that for the recommended 2 days. It has however lost all of its hair on its stomach and in several other places such as in patches on the hind legs and on the neck. We had to give it a flea bath on the second day as it was infested with fleas. Could it have lost its fur from the flea bath or is there possibly another problem? We don't have the money right now to take it to the Vet and really want to keep this kitten. It is adorable! It's part Persian and has so much personality! Please help us! Thanks for any assistance you can give. Kathy IP: Logged |

You would have caught the ringworm from the kitten, who has it. That is probably why it's losing its fur, they usually do with ringworm. It will need treatment for this, and as you can't afford to visit the vet I would suggest you phone them and ask if there's a product you can buy without having to have a consultation. You could also try a pet shop, do a web search too. There's probably something you could bathe it in, but I'm not sure. The ringworm does have to be treated though. Well done for taking in this lovely kitten and I'm sure in time with all your care it will be just fine. IP: Logged |

The rinworm is a problem that needs to be dealt with. The hair loss can also come from fleas. My cat is allergic to flees and he will lose fur from it. I don't know if petmeds.com delivers to the country you're in. It's worth a look. I've been getting the advantage and other meds for my cats here cheaper than at the vet. They don't normally need a prescription for most. IP: Logged |

Hi Yes the kitten will have ringworm. You can treat it with iodine baths, and I think a sulfur based product. Your vet will know. The biggest cost is treating the humans that catch it off the kitten, which you have already found out about. The kitten should take about a month of treatment before the fur has grown back. Well done for saving her/him! IP: Logged |

Don't forget that ringworm is a fungal infection so it can be passed not only to yourself but to any other animals you may have in your house. IP: Logged |
