My wife has a cat that starts meowing loudly at around 0430 every morning, waking me up and keeping me tired throughout the day. He doesn't need food or water but seems to enjoy hearing himself make noise. Any ideas as to how I can keep this cat quiet and preserve my last 1.5 hrs. of sleep each night? IP: Logged |

Hi I think what you have here is a feline alarm clock. I have three sugggestions. 1. Wear ear plugs. 2. You go to be earlier and get up at 4.30 each morning. 3. Half an hour before bed you play with the cat so much that he is exhaused and sleeps that little bit longer at night. Cats like to get up early and call for eveyone else to join them, so it is normal behaviour. Good luck :-) IP: Logged |

I have 2 alarm clock kitties, regularly at 4am every morning they want kisses and cuddles and playing with. I have honestly just learnt to push them off the bed, ignore them, roll over and go back to sleep with the occasional expletive. They are starting to get the picture that jumping on the bed and making a racket doesn't get them anywhere. The only other thing I can think of is a squirt bottle but I don't really agree with their usage except in extreme cases. IP: Logged |

I'd like to add that cats are nocturnal by nature. They enjoy the late hours I find that my oldest cat gets worked up about that time as well, but I've identified the problem as another cat. He gets up early and looks out the window for his buddy, who always comes by on his way to his happy hunting grounds. My oldest cat just wants to say "hi" and join him. Seems you can take a cat indoors, but you cannot take the outdoors out of them. Good Luck IP: Logged |
