Does anyone have any suggestions for a safe, efficient way for bathing a full grown cat? He's so dirty, he's licking his fur off...

When I got my first cat from the SPCA he had previously been a stray and was filthy. I ended up giving him a bath right in the bathtub with cat shampoo. He did'nt like and he whined the entire time but he was pretty good about...did'nt try to scratch me or anything. If you don't think your cat would be very accepting to a real bath then you could try those bath wipes (made for cats and dogs) or the no-rinse foam shampoo. I've used the bath wipes for cats and dogs and they seemed to work quite well. I've also used the no-rinse foam shampoo on one of my dogs and it also worked well. Just a few suggestions.

In general you shouldn't bathe your cat unless he is not washing or he has a substance that would be bad for him if he ingested it on his fur.
You mention he seems to be licking his fur off, this could be a sign that he is not happy or that he is bored. Any large amount of fur loss should be reported to your vet as he might also have mites or fleas that are bothering him.
