I have a 15 year old kittie, who seems to be feeling fine except that she has gone for two days without urinating. She won't drink either. This has happened before. She began passing blood clots through her bladder. The vet put her on antibiotics and it cleared up. I've been having to coax her to use the litterbox each night before I go to bed, and finally she relents...except for last night - she wouldn't go. And this morning, she wouldn't go again! She's eating well, and is alert. Anybody have a clue as to what is going on here? Thanks for any help. IP: Logged |

If she isnt drinking then you have quite a serious situation. If she will eat then put some water into her food so she stays hydrated. I have to say taking her to the vet would be the best plan of action as she probably has a UTI or an infection of the digestive system. With ehr age you really don't want to be taking risks. Kidney stones or crystals in the urine will do that too. You can check for dehydration by pulling some skill on her neck up. It should drop back down fast. Remaining up is a sign of dehydration. Time for the vet. IP: Logged |

I don't think that it's a question of she won't go, I think she probably can't go. It sounds like she's blocked. I have a female with that problem and antibiotics clears it up. My 3 year old male, however, needed surgery. I think she should been seen by a vet especially since she's not drinking. They can dehydrate so quickly. Good Luck. IP: Logged |

Hi again, It's a puzzle, really. I have her on antibiotics now, and they really aren't doing anything. She still won't pee. She finally relents after I place the box next to her, or actually put her in it a few times. Her appetitite is good, and I mix water with her food. She is not dehydrated. Her eyes are bright and clear, and she is active. There is no sign of fever. I should add that she is a cancer survivor. She lost a leg last year to osteosarcoma and made a full recovery. Apparently cats, unlike dogs, do not suffer from metastasis with bone cancer on a lower limb if the amputation is made early. So Angelica has trouble with arthritis and squatting may be painful, although she is making her daily bowel movements just fine. I give her glucosamine for the arthritis. Her vet is my neighbor, and she suggested me buying her "piddle pads" to give her an alternative to climbing in her box. I guess if that doesn't work, it's time for an xray. Any other thoughts?
