![]() ![]() ![]() My friend (doesn’t have internet so I’m writing for her) just adopted a 2-year-old cat from the local shelter. She's had her for about 2 weeks now and the cat isn't eating. We first thought it was the shock and trauma from being in a new place. She did take her to the vet and found out that it had a respiratory problem. The cat was put on some medicine for about 5 days but is now off of it. She took it back to the vet and they did blood work and everything came back fine. I've tried giving my friend some advise of kitty treats, soft cat food, tuna, sort of forcing food in her by squishing soft cat food on her nose so she’s forced to lick it off. She’s trying some lactose free milk and salmon next. Does anyone have any more ideas if those don’t work? She and I are getting worried as the cat has lost a pound over the past couple of weeks. ![]() ![]() ![]() Do you know if the vet checked the cat teeth? Sore gums or bad teeth may sometimes cause a cat to stop eating. Lack of smell may also be a factor during her respiratory infection...but I assume that is cured by now? Tell your friend to try jar meat baby food (only the ones without onion or onion powder)...it seems that many have had luck getting sick cats to eat with baby food. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I've been told that cats can go some time without eating, went through it with one of mine, just make sure she's drinking! If you can't tell, get a bottle of Pedialyte (in the baby section at any store) and a syringe and give her LOTS of it. My cat lived on that for two days until she decided to start eating again. She also has respiratory problems and wouldn't eat anything, canned food, baby food, salmon, NOTHING! That might get her through a rough spot until she's ready to eat again. Good luck! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() When my cat was really sick he wouldn't eat or drink, I finally had to force feed him water. I got a syringe and put it in his mouth so had to swallow it. You have to be careful that it doesn't get in their lungs which it can if they are fighting you. Cats can go awhile without eating, its dehydration that is serious. IP: Logged |
