My husband is an Electrician and he was doing work at a customers house and the woman ( who already has 3 cats of her own)found a little kitten crying and dirty in a bush outside her home, the kitten was skinny and had watery eyes and a drippy nose. She took the kitten to the vet and he tested her for feline leukemia...which turned up negative. The vet said to feed the kitten wet food, and that she just had a "little cold" and that the only thing to do was let her "ride it out" She eats ok, has moved her bowels and peed, she is very affectionate, but is lathargic and doesn't purr. This kitten's eyes are very watery and there is tons of yellow mucus coming out of her nose. She can't breathe through her nose and is coughing a lot. Her little face is constantly soiled with mucus, I can't keep her clean.I am wondering if anyone might know what this could be. And can the vet give her an antibiotic at 4 weeks??? HELP! IP: Logged
Kitty Member Posts: 49 From: Registered: Jul 2003	posted 09-15-2003 07:13 AM I think it's good news the kitty is eating, going to the bathroom and being affectionate (plus that the test came back negative). I'm thinking it's a cold, too. I would give the vet a call and let him/her know that she is still very runny and see what he/she recommends. (Since the vet has already seen the kitten, you could call without having to take the kitten in for an office visit, unless he/she thinks you need to.) I wouldn't worry too much about the kitten not purring because it is awful young. In the meantime, I'd keep up what you're doing (feeding often, keeping it warm and dry and giving it something to live for: meaning your affection) -- it sounds like you're taking good care of the kitty. I'm thankful that your husband brought the kitty to you to take care of. Please keep us updated. IP: Logged
