Hello -- I recently had a problem with my cat urinating inappropriately in one corner of the room (which was a new thing for her). It carried on for over a month until I cleaned the area with Nature's Miracle and covered with aluminum foil. She went after that, so I decided that she should eat where she pees. She ate her food in that area for a month, mid-last week I moved her food back to the kitchen and cleaned the area one last time. She has not returned to pee in that corner, but now refuses to eat. Does anyone have any ideas why she won't eat? She certainly knows where the food is since she looks at it and smells it several times a day and perhaps eats three crumbs. Please help! Thanks! Hmmm....have you tried moving the food bowl back to the area that she was peeing? Could the food possibly be stale? IP: Logged |

I have tried both fresh food and relocating her food to the last locale, but with no luck. She has taken more of an interest in people food lately, but I don't believe in feeding her people food due to her weight problem (former weight problem I should say). She has also taken more interest in plants.....any ideas? IP: Logged |

How long has she gone without eating? Does she appear to be losing any weight? If so, I would probably contact your vet because cats that go without eating for several days or rapidly lose weight are at risk for developing fatty liver disease. IP: Logged |

How about some more infomation too. How old is your cat, any other health problems? Is she drinking more/less, whats her energy level like? Any vomiting? Is she crying a lot (any change in her voice)? What is her poo like? Is she using her litter tray like normal now? What is her eating normally like? I agree with nern that a trip to the vet may be in order. And as far as human food is concerned I wouldn't stress too much about letting her eat it (chicken is good for instance), the main worry is why she won't eat her normal food. If she has a deteriorating illness then she may go off people food eventually too. The peeing in an unusual spot is often the first warning sign a cat is stressed and unhappy about something. They will know when they are sick but cats hide their symptoms very well (small animal syndrome), so by the time an owner notices their cat is sick often its already at a very advanced stage. I'm not trying to scare you. Let us know how things work out, and good luck too. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the feedback... Grace is three and a half years old. She has no other health problems and is drinking about the same amount of water and is frequenting her litter box about the same amount of times as normal. The peeing started well in advance of the starvation -- several months ago, in fact. I feel that we finally made it through that hurdle. She stopped eating nearly a month ago and I am worried sick over liver disease, etc. I called the vet, and they insisted that I wait at least a week before bringing her in. Her behavior remains the same; she is a sweetheart - very affectionate as she follows you from room to room. I even tried feeding her in my bedroom, which is her "safety zone" since I am the only one who enters the room on a normal basis. She as not had a bowel movement since she stopped eating. I am very, very nervous. I am on the wait list to get into the vet tomorrow.... IP: Logged |

Oh yes, one more note, she does seem to be losing weight. And yes, she did have some weight to spare....thanks again, I really appreciate the feedback! IP: Logged |

Sorry to keep on writing...I just noticed that I had a typo earlier; she stopped eating nearly a week ago, not a month ago. Sorry.... Also, she normally eats like a champ. She cries for food in the morning (and continues to do so now) and typically eats when I am home from work. Otherwise, all other "talking" remains the same. Thanks again, hopefully I've now included all of the requested info! IP: Logged |
