Hi. I'm new to this site. You just gotta help my cat! Ogie is his name and I love him to pieces. He has an itch problem. He itches and then scratches himself raw and bleeding. He's thin and bony. He's been on just Z/D for months. He's eaten just lamb and rice (Iams) for 1 month. He gets steroid shots, but they only give him relief for about 3 weeks. I bathe him using Histacalm shampoo(3 times/week) after the shots wearoff, but that helps very little. He's been allergy tested & the results show no allergies. Ogie's had a ton of other tests as well and all is negative. I need advice!! Thank you, Libby IP: Logged |

Did your vet do a scrape test for mites, these little creatures bury themselves under the skin and without actually doing a skin scrape and looking at it through a microscope there is no way of knowing... It Is not normal for an animal to scratch that much... How long has your cat been thing and boney... Some cats will have an allergic reaction to steroids and the shots could be making the matter worse... my first kitty who is now passed...i got her from my grandparents farm.. she was a calico, skinny too, and calico's tend to have dry skin as well as dalmation's.I used to call it kitty exzima...there wasnt anything i could do it was just a common skin rash... is your kitty a calico..? if so try a moistureizing shampoo something to keep the moisture in after bathing..also bathing could be the reason for itching..it too could be drying out his skin even more. some times it's good to let the cats own skin oil stay to keep his skin soft, and moist...keep us posted.. Oh Libby your poor cat. What kinds of tests has your vet done? Is it possible for you to get a second opinion from another vet? I sure hope you find a solution. IP: Logged |
