I have two cats, Lily, my female, and Grendel, my male. Lily is approximately 1-2years. (I rescued her earlier this year when she was drpooed off at my college) Grendel is about 5 months. (my dog found him in the back yard when he was about 3-4 weeks.) Lately Lily has been giving Grendel the cold shoulder. She used to bathe him and play with him but lately all she does is growl and give him clawless slaps. I cannot figure out why she is mad at him. She tolerates the dog more than him, and she HATES the dog. Any ideas as to why she is being so grumpy??

Is Grendel neutered yet? If not, maybe he is starting to reach sexual maturity which is causing Lily to act this way toward him. I could be wrong...just a thought.

Maybe shes sick? Maybe shes injured? Maybe hes stealing her favourite sleeping spots/food/play time/attention from you? Maybe there is a cat outside/nextdoor she is annoyed at and she is redirecting her anger?

Just some ideas. Could be anything else aswell.

no grendel is not neutered yet, but he really isn't starting to even ehave like a mature male cat. (i've had others) I am not sure there are anyother cats. She isn't sick or injured that it appears, she allows my children ages 2 and 3 to play with her and they are rough. she just seems to hate him.

Maybe she behaved like an adopted mother to him because he was so young when they met, and now he is becoming a young cat instead of a kitten anymore. She may me giving him the message that she's not his mum now. Mother cats othen do the same thing, even getting quite violent about it. If its just a cold shoulder and a few biffs don't worry. Just give them both love and attention, and hopefully they will become friends as adults.

well, the good news is that earlier she held him down and bathed him, trust me he wasn't thrilled. (just like a boy, hating bath time) But she still gets mad at him. It might be the motherly thing, either that or cause he always smells like dog. My rottie and him wrestle. Next month he is going to get snipped, so if that was the problem, i'll know then I guess. Thanks for all the advice.
