We are thinking about getting new kitten. We have a two and a half year old Cat. She is great. However we are gone a lot during the day and thought it would be nice for her to have someone to play with, however we are scared they will not get along and our current cat will never be the same. Our Cat seems very happy. What should we do? Are we going to ruin a good thing if we get another? IP: Logged |

And then on the flip side, it maybe a good thing. Every cat is different. We got a kitten for our 2 year old cat and even though it took 3 weeks to see eye to eye, they became good friends after a while. If you do decide to get another cat, give her a ton of attention before hand. and when you bring the cat home...have a stranger your cat doesn't know bring it in a carrier. Leve it on the floor so your cat can investigate. This way, your kitty won't associate you with bringing in the cat. Leave the cat in its kennel for a while and then let it out while the stranger is still there and let the 'stranger' leave without the cat. May I sugest a kitten opposed to a full grown cat....just my opinion..... Good luck with your decision! IP: Logged |

I second what Cat said. We have four cats and had to do the introductions of cats to kittens a couple of times. All cats are different so there's no sure fire way to know exactly how your cat would react. I hear that you should get a kitten of the opposite sex to have the best chance of things working out with an adult cat already in the house. (We watched over my sister's cat once and it DID NOT work out - he was two and our oldest cats were five. But, our cats had no problem adjusting to an 8 week old kitten.) It took my cats a couple weeks to fully accept each other. Now they love each other and play all the time. Our oldest and youngest actually sleep together (curled up... it's the cutest thing.) So, it may be a great idea to add another kitty to your home if you're willing to work on it. You cat will need TONS of positive attention when adjusting to the new family member. Introduce them slowly. There are countless articles you can read on introductions. If you read up on it, you will probably have a good chance of having things work out well. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Good luck. I'd love to hear an update once you get the little one. I personally love having multiple cats. They're a thrill a minute and it's great to watch them play together. IP: Logged |
