JUST DISCOVERED THIS WEBSITE. SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAT I'M READING ABOUT ON THIS SITE.
TOOK MY 11 YEAR OLD CAT TO THE VET LAST SATURDAY MORNING. SHE HAD BEEN VOMITING ALL NIGHT. HAD A TEMPERATURE OF 104 AND WAS DEHYDRATED. THEY GAVE HER AN ANTIBIOTIC INJECTION, FLUIDS, DREW BLOOD (HAD TO TRANQUILIZE HER)...DOESN'T LIKE BEING HANDLED BY STANGERS. SHE WON'T EAT. YESTERDAY THE VET SUGGESTED "AD" AND REBOUND. CAT REFUSED. THEY GAVE ME A SYRINGE TO FORCE-FEED MY CAT. VERY DIFFICULT; CAT DOESN'T LIKE. I'VE OFFERED HER A VARIETY OF FOODS; NOTHING WORKS. SHE WILL DRINK WATER. BLOOD TEST DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING MAJOR--UREA WAS HIGH, CHOLESTROL WAS HIGH, WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT LOW. T-4 OK. LIVER ENZIME A LITTLE HIGH. VET HAS HER ON BAYTRIL. GETTING DISCOURAGED AND IT'S BREAKING MY HEART THAT SHE'S NOT GETTING BETTER.

Im sorry to hear this.
You say she will drink water....maybe if you really water down some canned food she will be willing to drink it...might be worth a try.

Make sure she is drinking water, that is really important. I would give her some nutrical or similiar vitamin paste. It is easier to give than force feeding her. If she wont eat it you can stick it on the roof of her mouth and she will lick it off. It will keep her strength up until she starts eating again.

Thank you for the words of advice. She has never liked the canned food although it seems to be everyone's advice to try. I've tried 3 different brands with no success. Even tried tuna juice (tuna packed in spring water) today as suggested from a vet's office. I'm looking into getting a second opinion from another vet business.

ADDITIONAL ON MY CAT NOT EATING...HER LEFT REAR LEG HAS NOT BEEN FUNCTIONING SINCE THE VISIT TO THE VET LAST SATURDAY. VET SAID INJECTION TOO CLOSE TO A NERVE CAUSED INFLAMMATION; SHOULD REGAIN USE OF LEG. AS OF THIS MORNING, SHE HADN'T! NOW SHE'S ALSO NOT USING HER RIGHT REAR LEG PROPERLY. TOOK HER TO ANOTHER VET THIS A.M.. BLOOD TEST SHOWED NEGATIVE FOR FELINE LUKEMIA AND FIV, BUT THEY STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER. PLEASE, CAN ANYONE HELP? HAS ANYONE HAD A CAT WITH THESE SYMPTOMS THAT MIGHT DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THIS PROBLEM?

Honestly, I'd try for a second opinion. It doesn't hurt. Maybe you can get more clear answers from someone else.

I hope your kitty gets better soon.

Sorry that I don't really have any advice to give you. I've dealt with my cat not eating, but the syringe with watered-down wet food worked for me.

Did you try the nutrical? It's very high in calories and cats love the taste and smell of it. My vet sold it to me when we had our problem... so you could probably get some from your vet.

Katty hope and pray your cat gets better. We are going thru somewhat of the same thing. They gave us the AD and told us to mix a little water with as it gives them a little hydration and it's easier to get in the syringe. We bring Calley home from her Surgery this week and am hoping she'll start eating on her own. I'm also going to ask my Vet about the Nutrical that was mentioned. That sounds like a good product. IF *SOMEONE* CAN'T DISCOVER WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, SHE'LL EITHER GO THROUGH MORE TESTING, WHICH THE VET SAID THEY'D INSERT A FEEDING TUBE TO HELP WITH THE FOOD INTAKE. BUT DO I REALLY WANT HER TO GO THROUGH THAT? IF SHE CAN'T WALK AND HAS A FEEDING TUBE, WHAT KIND OF LIFE IS THAT? SHE'S ALWAYS LOVED TO SCAMPER AROUND THE HOUSE AND THIS IS JUST KILLING ME. I'M NOT SURE IF I CAN HAVE HER PUT DOWN, BUT WHEN IF ENOUGH---ENOUGH? THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY RESPONSES TO THIS HEARTBROKEN GAL IN INDIANA.

Nutrical and fluids can work wonders. It has brought back more than one cat that a vet said should be put down. Give your cat some time. Sometimes it is a mystery to us what is wrong but they get better.

TURKEY BABY FOOD!!!!!! If he doesn't eat it out of your hand, than try to syringe it. The strong scent will make him eat. My cat is 10 years old and is experiencing kidney failure due to hyperthyroidism. He gets fluids through a needle five days a week, and his back paws are giving out on him. He reached a point when he stopped eating, and turkey baby food stimulated his appetite. As far as his diagnoses, I'm not sure. Did the veterinarian check your cat's kidneys?
