I'm taking my kitten to get spayed on Thursday morning. It's been a few years since I've done this and I can't remember how long it takes until they are OK to play and walk up and down stairs. Her litter and food are down flight of stairs. I will move everything up when she comes home but when will I know when it's OK to go back down? Any other helpful hints on the post op will be appreciated. IP: Logged |

It depends on how old the cat is and the cat itself. Males are usually fine later the same day. I got several girls fixed at the same time. One of them was herself the next day, jumping and playing. They say not to let them jump, but we all know you can't keep a cat from jumping if they want to! The others took several days. They laid around quite a bit for a few days. The girls who took longer to recover were a year and a half old while the one who recovered faster was only 4.5 months. I would plan on 2-3 days before she is back to normal. I recommend a pain shot or pain pills for her. It seems to help them recover a little better. IP: Logged |

The younger they are the faster they recover. My two, 5 month old kittens got spayed/neutered on Monday. I took the male home the same day, and he was fine, it fact he did nothing but purr when I brought him home (ALL NIGHT LONG!). The girl stayed overnight, and I picked her up yesterday and she was fine also. They are both playing like crazy now Neither of them needed pain killers, but I know the girl was a little sediated after the surgery. IP: Logged |
