Hi my name is shaun and we just got a new cat he's about 7 weeks old and he just seems to poo or pee where ever he is at the time on the carpet in the kitchen in my bed while im sleeping in it(thats not a nice thing to wake up too) now i have showed him where the kitty litter tray is but he wont use it can some one help me here please coz i have no idea

if you've tried puttin the kitty in it after a meal or transfering the misplaced poop to the litterbox

the next thing is to maybe change the type of litter

Was the kitten bottle fed? Some orphaned kitties have a hard time learning about the litter box without mom.
Do you have litter boxes easily accessible for the kitty? Maybe he cant get to it in time.
I would try putting him in a small area. You might even want to start out with a larger dog kennel. That way he gets used to having to use the box to keep his area clean. Then as he gets the idea expand his areas. Make sure you have atleast 2 litter boxes. If you have 2 floors to your home make sure you have a box on each floor. Then make sure to treat the areas with an enzyme remover. I swear by Get Serious. Its a little expensive but it works. You can find it at petsmart.
He is young enough that you should be able to nip this pretty easily. Next time you take him in for his booster shots be sure to have your vet check him over to be sure there isnt a medical condition that is causing this.

Shaun, is it possible that the litter box is too high for him to easily get in and out of? I had to use a small, low litter box with some of my kittens. Definately put the poop in the box when he has accidents outside of it..maybe if he sees/smells it in there he will start going in there. I agree with confining him to a small area with his litter box until he learns to use it properly. Good luck.

I have a similiar problem...one of my three kittens won't use the litter box no matter what I do! It almost seems she's afraid of it, hokw she acts when I try to place her in it. She also poops all over the carpet and bed. She can get in the litter box, she wasn't bottle fed, and I don't think it's the litter. Any suggestions for that?

The 1st three weeks I brought my kittens home, they went to the bathroom EVERYWHERE except in the litter box. They are adjusting to their new home. I basically kept putting the kittens in their litter box every 2 hours, and 'scratched' their paws in the litter, so they knew that is where they are supposed to go. Within 3 weeks there were no more accidents!

Also, I only live in a one bedroom apartment, and I have 2 litter boxes, one in my bedroom and one in the corner of my living room. That way they have extremley easy access to both. My suggestion to you would be to go out and get another (cheap) litter box. That way the kitty doesnt 'forget' where the boxes are at.
