I took my cat for walks all the time. She did the same thing yours is doing. Need to have a harness for the cat not a collar with a leash. I just put a harness on her a little bit every day for about a week - then would attache the leash for about another week. Then we would gradually go out a little bit at a time. Now i say "do you want to go out side" and she sits till i put her harness on and we go outside for a little while - walk around the apt or house. Then she is ready to come in.

Just need to be patient

I was afraid that people would laugh at me because I had my cat in a harness... but I refused to let my kitty out without one. We don't go for walks, though. She would never do that... we just walk around the yard so she can sniff stuff.

I let the cat walk around the house with the harness on for increasing amounts of time. If you do it, it's natural for the cat to not want to move and act weird. But, if you keep at it, your cat will probably get used to it and not realize that he's even wearing one.

I use a nylon harness that's very light weight. I think my cat would choose to go outside with the harness on than never get to go out. But, it did take some work to get her to that point.
