On Friday, November 21, 2003, our cat, Sammy, who is 13 years and 1 month old, was diagnosed with some kind of growth in his small intestines. The x-ray shows a large mass, the size of an orange. After, getting a second opinion, and a blood test done, today, we were advised that Sammy will need surgery tomorrow. Sammy has been well treated all his life and is in excellent health until last Wednesday, when he stopped eating and gotten weak. We adopted Sammy on December 16, 1990, and he was the BEST Christmas present we have ever had. He has brought so much love and joy to our family that we do not want to see him go….. He is so well mannered and does NOT scratch the furniture. He answers whenever his name is called with his “hmmm?” That’s why we are doing everything medically possible to save him. There’s still a chance that during surgery the Vet may find the growth have consumed the majority of the intestines and that nothing can be done. Today, I am asking everyone, especially those with pets, to pray for Sammy. His surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at approximately 11:00am PST. Thanking everyone in advance for their prayers and support. Sincerely yours, Tommy IP: Logged |

UPDATE: As of Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at 2pm PST, the surgery was a sucess. The Vet removed the majority of the mass in Sammy's intestine. They have yet to determine if it was cancer. We were not allowed to see Sammy as he is still under intensive care. According to the Dr., the next 24 hours are very critical as Sammy's body will react to the surgery and the removal of parts of his intestine. PLEASE keep your Prayers coming.....and THANK YOU ALL for your warm support. IP: Logged |

I went in to see Sammy today and Dr. Leah gave me the bad news. The lab report came back and the 'mass' that was removed from Sammy on Tuesday was cancerous... pancreatic cancer with no cure. She said she doesn't know how much longer Sammy has but in most cases it's only a few weeks. But she did say that since Sammy has improved so much in the last 48hrs she hope it will be longer. Sammy was able to pee yesterday and eat some solid foods today. He was very active when I visited him. He kept on rubbing his head on my hand and meowed a few times and tried jumping off the table wanting to go home. But Sammy is still very weak. If all goes well the morning Sammy can come home tomorrow. Dr. Leah said on Tuesday after the operation that in the worst case scenario, this surgery will give Sammy more time and I guess we have to be thankful for it. However we will have to decide what we are goimg to do. We do not want to give up on Sammy but we do not want Sammy to have to suffer any longer than he has as well. I could see that Sammy was a bit different in the way he reacted to my visit today. But I'm sure anyone having gone thru what he had the last few days would be freaked out and scared also. I'll keep you updated. IP: Logged |
