Hi- there could be so many reasons, mainly the scent or texture of the litter, or the location of the box. She might want more privacy or quiet, like in a closet or on a patio. Pick up the kitten and put her in the box. Take her paw gently and rake it through the litter a few times as if she was "digging". You can also show her how to dig with your own hands (in clean litter!). Then push down gently on her hind quarters to show her how to squat. Cats can be taught! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Try changing the litter that you are using. My cat refuses to use the Crystal Litter stuff and hates anything with a scent. Also get the cat a litter box with a covering and flap, this will help with any provacy issues she has IP: Logged |

It can be hard to diagnose litter box problems. First take your kitty to the vet to rule out a bladder infection. You said she uses the box some of the time. If its an infection than she might not be able to make it to the box in time. If you are moving her litter box all over the house it might be confusing to her. Make sure to have atleast 2 boxes and a box on each level of your home. Sometimes cats just dont like the litter, if thats the case find one that she does like and stick with it. She may not even like the box that you have provided her. Give her a variety to see if she prefers one box over the other. If she is continiously going in the same spot something as easy as providing her a litter box there could help. You could also try putting her bedding there to discourage her from urinating on that spot. Make sure to treat all areas that she has urinated on or she will be attracted to urinated there over and over again. If you cant find all of the accidents you can get a black light from petsmart that shows you where all of the accidents are making it easier to treat. Good luck and keep us posted. If you would like to provide more info and specifics I would be happy to help you out a little more IP: Logged |
