My poor cat. i was out of town for the holiday and when i came home my cat had half a tail. my poor babyboy lost half his tail. i dont know how. the people who were watching him could only tell me he got out of the house and this is how he came home. i dont know what to think. you know. i am like my cat. how is the world does a cat lose half of its tail? i am really upset. i really dont know what to think you know. its my animal. i am really really mad and sad at the same time. did a person do this? or another animal? really how could this happen. i dont believe its happened you know, until he walks past me with half his TAIL!!! does it hurt him, is it going to screw up is balance? ahhhh. i am so upset! they took him to the vet when it happen, i had talk to them the whole time i was gone and they never mention it. even when he was gone (when he got out the house) they never said a thing. (they are not animal people. they dont have a problem with animal they just dont feel the same way about cats and dogs as i do.) i am not sure if i should be upset with them or not (plus i am not even sure they really did take him to the vet. so i am going to do this tuesday.) his tail looks ok. i dont want to touch it though, maybe it still hurts. i know dogs have high tolerant for pain, but do cats?? i am so crazy right now! oh yeah and another thing these people did... get this they left my dog in her crate for over 14 hours!!! 14 hours with no food water or bathroom break. so needless to say she went to the restroom right in her cage. and they didnt even clean it up!! they just left it there for me to clean up when i got home. ahhh what were they thinking. i might not have children, but you know what. these animals are my babies. you know. they are like my kids. and uh i am just so upset. you know. i dont know what to do. i just needed to get that out. you know. uh. i am upset about the dog thing that was wrong. but i dont know what to think aobut the cat. you know. i mean. god. i am never going out of town. you know. every time i leave something bad happens. you know. like once i leave and other people that are watching my house and animals. have a huge party and when i get home my cat is scared to death, and there is stains for throw up all over my carpet!! my cat wouldnt come out of his hiding place for like a week after i got home! i would bring them with me when i went out of town but it would just cost to much to fly them with me and it cost to much to drive, plus they both HATE the car. jack goes crazy (plus hes not great around people he doesnt knwo to well...ie he hid after that party for a week or so...) and Trike is just plain scared. oh well thanks for listen. any ideas about this tail thing. thanks lotty trike and jack IP: Logged |

Oh my lotty! I am soo sorry! Your poor kitty! I have no idea what could have happened to your poor baby anything is possible. That is such an awful experience. Next time you go out of town look into hiring a professional pet sitter. One that has insurance, is bonded, and comes with references. That way you can leave town knowing that your furkids are being taken care of correctly. A pet sitter should come meet your pets before you leave, let you conduct an interview, show you references, have information to show you in writing, take detailed information on personality, likes/dislikes, routine, and medical history. They should also call you with updates while they are gone and leave you a daily log of your pets activities. Here are some national groups for pet sitters that you can look into for the next time you go out of town Once again so sorry to hear of this awful experience. IP: Logged |

He should be fine without his tail as long as he has been checked out by a vet. As far as I know he wont have any long term consequences and will be just fine. IP: Logged |

I hit the button too soon! It is really hard to find responsible people to watch your animals. I would definately look into hiring a professional pet sitter next time you leave town. Or since you only have two animals you could board them. IP: Logged |

thanks for your reply MM and FF!! next time i will totally think about the pet sitter. that sounds like a much better idea then come home to find out my dog has lost another leg! (only having three to start with) but you dont think it would be that hard to watch a few animals you know. i wasnt asking the world from them. the thing that makes me so sooooo crazy is the fact that my dog was kept in her cage for 14 HOURS!!!! and you know the fact that my cat only has half a TAIL. thanks again guys. it really helps knowing i can talk about this kinda stuff to people who feel the same way i do. and thanks for the advice too! next time i go out of time i am totally using the petsitter! Oh my, how terrible. I always have my sister or mother take care of mine if I am gone but if I did'nt have them I would most definately look into boarding or getting a professional pet sitter. Let us know what the vet says about the cats tail. IP: Logged |

I'll let you know how it goes on tuesday. now that i have calmed down i feel alittle better. but you know its not as bad as i thought or at least made it out to be. its more like the tip ( a little more than the tip but not half of the tail) that is gone. its noticable. you know. i notice the first moment i saw the cat. but yah. i will totally let ou know waht happen at the vet. maybe he can give me an idea what happen to the tail. yet another reason jack will not be going outside ever!!!!

sorry to hear that. I hope everyone is doing better. A friend of mine; her cat lost the tip of her tail when she ran underneth a car. the vet couldnt do anything about it, except put some ointment on it and a band-aide. The tail was fine and the cat got used to it. P.s. if your not sure if they took your cat to the vet; ask them were they brought him/her to and they should have a record. IP: Logged |

My cat got it's leg broke in half by having a door slammed on it. Maybe that's what happened to your cat's tail. Sorry to hear about it. IP: Logged |

that could happen my sister in laws 2 cats outta 4 had their tail broken from having a door slammed on it they have 2 kids soooo it was not intentional but if it was slammed hard enought it could possibly make the tail come off.... i would ask them where they took the cat and check the records at that vet just to ease ur mind a lil... and if they did take him look into and see what they told the vet on how it got that way...how is the kitty doing now? I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I also had this happen to my cat last summer. He went out one night and when i let him in the next morning he had half his tail missing with just the bone left.It was ripped off but we couldn't get to the vet until monday(it happened on a saturday). The vet said he may have trapped it in a door but it was most likely that he was attacked by a dog. My cat is easy prey for other animals as he is deaf so wouldn't have heard a dog come after him. He now has a 4 inch stump, this is all they could save. He has no problems at all. You will probably never find out what happened to him but i understand why you were so angry,When you left your pets in what you thought was good care and this is what happens. I would be mad too. I hope your cat is doing ok now IP: Logged |
