Well here's the thing. Sammy (our 4 month old shorthair) does that kneading thing with his paws when he is sitting on you...he will do this forever if you let him. I don't mind this (except when I am trying to sleep ) but here's what happens. While he is doing this, a small amount of pee will escape. Seems as though this only happens to ME. It doesn't smell like pee but thats where it's coming from. It only happens when he is kneading. Anyone else experience this or know what the issue is? Is it a problem or normal kitty behavior? My other cat Rory (7 months) has never had this problem. He kneads but no escaping pee happens. Any input/advice would be appreciated. Thanks! IP: Logged |

Only thing I can think of is that your kittie is getting super relaxed. I have a kitten right now (about 2 months old). That when she gets really relaxed and starts to purr she...well lets just say she doesn't smell very good. My sister's cat though would do the pawing thing, but would also try to suck your thumb while doing this. IP: Logged |

I am having a similar problem as well. My boyfriend and I adopted Felix about a year ago. He is almost 2 years old now. He had been recently neutered when we adopted him. Occasionally when we are laying down he will come and sit on us and start kneading our stomachs. At first we thought this was cute until we noticed he was getting "excited". He will also get "excited" if we pet him as he is waking up. We are reluctant to punish as him as we are sure he doesn't know any better. However it is mildly disturbing to say the least... The 'kneading' reaction means that they miss their mother. (it is a reminder of her) Kittens use to knead on the mommy's stomach in order to suckle the milk out of the mother. As they get older, they should grow out of it. As far as I know, it is normal behavior, no reason to be alarmed. I have 2 kittens, brother and sister, that are now 5 months old, and they both do the kneading thing with my one pillows. IP: Logged |

I have always been told when a cat is kneading that they associate you as their mom. I have a 4 year old female who still kneads and suckles. When they suckle it usually means they were taken away from mom too early. She is fascinated with my ear lobe. She demands it. She is also a very tempermental tortie so when I pull her off she growls. Its kind of funny actually. I also have a 8 year old cat who still kneads. I have never had the problem with urine seeping out though. I will look into this for you and see what I can come up with. IP: Logged |

My cats are 8mos old, and they both still knead too. Maydays.. One of my cats is also a Tortie, and she likes to growl too, mainly when she's playing with her toys... it's cute. And hates to be touched most of the time.. is yours like that? We'll try to pet her, and she'll dip her back in like "don't touch me" and walk away all prissy.. LOL She lets us pet her sometimes, but she's just not a loveable cat. My vet told me most Torti's are like that, so I was curious if yours was too?! IP: Logged |

Mine should have been born with a presciption of prozac lol. She is soo incredibly moody. One second she will jump in your lap and then if you move even a slight inch she growls. Then she will knead and try to suckle. So wierd. She also walks through the house as though she is the Queen and makes sure to tell all the other cats off atleast once a day. (She will even go out of her way to let them know she is displeased) Then you will find her curled up with the group purring like a go cart. She is a little insane, but can be a huge sweetie when she feels like it. I have noticed that torties have more of a "flair" for lack of a better word. Every tortie I have fostered has had an attitude that they each expressed in a different way. I have also noticed that alot of torties can be overstimulated from being petted and they lash out aggressively. One of my tortie fosters Cricket has lots of trigger areas that if touched she will give you an ear full of spits, growls and hisses. I hate to classify a whole color of kitty as moody but its just too wierd how so many have the same characteristics. Have you had any problems with litter box issues? It seems to me that most of my fosters that do have them are torties. Just coincendence? IP: Logged |

I have two torties and I haven't had any litter box issues with them. One of them, Angel likes to be pet when there aren't other cats around. She likes to be the only one getting attention. If I try to pet her when she doesn't want it, she will lower herself down to the ground and keep walking. Angel always uses the litter box when I am scooping them. She doesn't use the one that I have just scooped either, she uses one of the ones that I haven't scooped yet. Thats her only litter related thing. The other one, Loki always wants to be pet. She has the most annoying cry for when she wants attention. Loki likes to always be sitting on my lap and makes weird little noises if I try to move her. She also kneads non-stop when she is on my lap. They are both good cats, and I don't think their personalitites are that different from the rest of my bunch. Actually I may have 3 torties, I don't know what the definition is for them to be a tortie. I have one that has a lot of white on her, Loki and Angel don't have any white patches. Ruth is tortie coloring with a lot of white patches. I heard that calicos are more prone to scizophrenia (sp), so maybe this is why some of them seem to be moody. IP: Logged |

I have noticed that when he is kneading, and the times when I think urine is seeping out, he is...well...excited. I have never seen a cat get this way before. Anyone else? I know Jendeh mentioned this...anyone else? Is this normal? I'll bring it up when we go to the vet but if anyone has any insight as to what's going on with my little guy I'd appreciate it. Others have mentioned the growling thing. Sammy is just a grey and white shorthair but he will growl at Rory sometimes. It's cute. Rory ignores him which strikes me as even funnier. IP: Logged |
