Hi all, What a great forum. As I've mentioned before I adopted a cat about a month ago. Well, I am noticed that their is a part of his belly that he doesn't have fur. It looks like it was shaved for a neutering operation, but I am not sure because he is five and I would imagine that he was fixed as a young cat. ANYWAY, he has a a few red blotches in that area that he lately bites. he doesn't seem to be biting his fur out but has that little red area. It looks like a bite mark and is probably made more red when he nibbles it. Any thoughts? IP: Logged |

If it's a male he wouldn't have had his belly shaved to get neutered. Females get their bellies shaved when they are spayed. Since it's friday, you can call the place you got your cat from and ask them if he had any operations recently. Feel your cats belly. Does it feel like there is a lump there? Or stitches there? Does your cat hiss when you touch his belly? Let us know and we can perhaps narrow it down a bit. IP: Logged |

Is your kitty an outside cat? Make sure to check for fleas. They could be sores he created while scratching and itching. Are the sores in a circular patteren? Look up pictures or ringworm and compare them to your cats stomache. Maybe he is allergic to your laundrey detergent? I agree with Chessmind more info would really help narrow it down. IP: Logged |

If you've checked for fleas already... Given the age of your kitty, you should get a full blood profile done for him to rule out potential underlying health conditions (i.e., hyper- or hypothyroid could be a potential concern, given kitty's age and combined with the initial complaint-scratching/aggravating/fur loss) Food allergies could also be a problem, a kitty can develop a sudden allergy to a food at any time, regardless of what he's been eating all the while. Atopy is another problem that needs to be ruled out by your vet. Bottom line, only your vet can tell you what the problem may be stemming from, through examination and additional testing if necessary. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sorry to be vague Calling the shelter to check date of neutering is a great idea. He doesn't his when I touch his tummy, but runs away. He is still skittish so it is hard to tell if her is in pain or just not wantin to be held. The spots are in a crescent shape and just look like red dots. They are a deeper red after he had been biting at them. He is due at the vet soon so I am definitely going to ask about it. Other than that, he eats alot, has plenty o nergy and seems happy and no lethargic. IP: Logged |
