Okay, first heres the story. Since I met my husband we have been going to visit his birth mom. Every time we go there, there are 1-2 liters of new kittens, and they tell us stories of how they think the other ones disapear. This is where we've gotten most of our cats and we've found homes for other litters before. This time we took all 7 kittens. The mama cats havent been seen for about 2 months. Long story short I need to worm them. Their tummies are very distended. I can't afford a vet for all these guys. I am going to find homes for them in our area. Anyway I bought Hartz health measures once a month wormer. It says the strength is 80mg per capsule- give one and then one the next day. When I looked at wormers online I noticed most of the strengths were 250mg give one dose and then another 10 days later. Why the difference in strength????? Can I safley give 3 capsules now and then 3 10 days later to match the dosage of the other products ( well close 240mg)All the products I looked at are for kittens. I want this to be effective. You guys all know we lost a kitten to hookworms, these guys only seem to have roundworms. At home I will be contacting every rescue/shelter for advice/help and to list them all to find homes. Thanks in advance for any help. IP: Logged |

Stick with the manufacturers guildlines for god's sake! And also check the wormers are for kittens not for full grown cats. IF you give them more than the amount recommended for their size you could poison them. If you have any doubts at all ring a vets surgery and ASK, they won't charge you for the advice but will be very helpful. IP: Logged |

They need to trap the mama cats and get them spayed. Even if you pay to get them spayed it is cheaper than taking in all of the kittens--- trust me! IP: Logged |

Really I can't say strongly enough that the adult cats (as well as the kittens) need to be fixed. It is a sad state when people will allow animals to continue breeding, while making someone else care for and find homes for the results. The medical problem you face should be avoided in the future by spaying/neutering. IP: Logged |

I think it's funny you guys didn't pay much attention to my post. We are almost positive the mothers are dead. I am smart enough to know that they all need spayed and neutered. Since I said we took every cat then there are no cats left at this house to keep breeding. I was more concerned about the near fatal load of worms that each of them were carrying. They are all recovering, slowly though. Neg for leukemia and aids so I can stop being a spaz about them making my cats sick. We had to take the smallest to the 24 hour vet today due to a blocked colon from all the worms. They are being spayed and neutered on the 5th. Since I am fostering them theres a program that will cover the costs of this. We've spent $400 so far. I don't know why we can never just ignore critters that need help. This is $1500 on animals that don't belong to us in the past 3 months now. Hopefully we can find homes soon, and hopefully before we get attached. We have 8 kities of our own to look out for. not to mention the rest of our zoo. Anyone is Oregon/Washington have a great home for any of 6 very deserving kitties :-) Jenny IP: Logged |

Hi Jenny. Thanks for doing everything to help out those kitties. You're a good person. We need more people like you in the world. Let us know how it's going with the kitties. IP: Logged |

I did pay attention to your post, I just interpreted it wrong. When you said the mothers hadn't been seen I thought you meant that they are wild and didn't come around people. I have taken in several litters from wild mothers who would rarely let people see them. Glad to hear the kittens are doing well. I always end up taking in little ones too, so I know how you feel. You have a good heart. I hope you find good homes for the babies. IP: Logged |
