I have two cats, male is 1.5 years old, neutered and a 5.5 year old small female, spayed. I have had her since she was a kitten, bottle-fed her. The male cat I have had since he was a kitten. They both have their front paws declawed. The problem: He bites a lot! He is lovable but just acts like a dog more than a cat. He chases her around and bites her on the back of the neck and back...and he can be very mean to her. The vet says it is a territorial issue. He said that we should use a squirt gun on him. The female cat in the last few weeks has had bleeding on her back and now recently losing her fur along her back on top. I thought it was from the fighting. But upon a closer look (since her fur is missing now) and it recently looks worse...she has a lot of scabs and raw areas....hundreds of red spots, it looks like the measles. Could this be a skin disease? I am taking her to the vet this week. and hopefully we can get some medicine for her. If this is from the male cat I may have no choice but to give him to a friend. There diets have not changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! IP: Logged |

Hello. Welcome to the site. It sounds like she may have a reaction to fleas. I use Advantage on my cat. I think it's the best. You apply it behind their neck once a month and the cost is about $10 a dose. Hartz flea drops are just aweful, so don't use those. IP: Logged |

It doesn't sound like the skin problem is from the male cat. This article is a pretty good summary of different skin conditions: http://www.nzymes.com/Articles/cat_skin_hair_problems.htm It might give you some insight into what is wrong with her. It actually sounds to me like the male cat is playing when he bites her. My male cats do the same thing, and they can be really rough. Pirate likes to pick on his sister Sophie. Sometimes he chases her around and attacks her and she hisses and spits at him. He isn't being mean, he's just being a brother. IP: Logged |
