My youngest cat, he is just over a year, neutered tom, has started to show some really disturbing biting behavior, He is my partner's cat and really loves her, he is always sitting on her knee and always goes to her first but just recently he has started biting her neck, round the throat and jugular area. He won't let go even when we grab him by the scruff, this usually stop him biting people. So I have ended up dragging him off and hurting my partner. The cat purrs when he does this and the rest of the time is is really affectionate to my partner. He gives her kisses and rubs himself up against her chin. Does anyone have any idea why he has started to do this? IP: Logged |

Hi My cat does something very similar. I am HER person and she makes that very clear to everyone. She will tolerate my husband but makes wide circles around my toddler. She sleeps on my side of the bed and has her moments during the day when she wants my attention, etc, etc. However, she starts to bite (or "love bite") during times when she is affectionate. It could be when she is sitting on my lap and I am absentmindly patting her or in the middle of the night when I am fast asleep. There have been times she she has bitten my head, cheek, nose, arm, etc. And its not gentle either; she intends to leave a mark. But she really is a loveable cat most of the time. She is now 5 years and this only started when she was 3. This topic was mentioned somewhere on here before in the last few months and someone pointed out that cats can get overstimulated when patted too much. I have learned to watch for the signs (when I'm awake!) and stop patting her before it gets to a point of nastiness. It may very well be her way of showing extreme love or telling me to bugger off. Sorry I can't be of much help but I do understand! IP: Logged |
