I took my cat, Bagheera, on Monday for his lukemia shot. He received the shot Monday morning, it is now Friday evening and he is still not feeling well. He hasn't been eating well and has not been as active. I am concerned he is having a bad reaction and needs testing. Is it normal for him to feel unwell this long? If not, what should I do? Please help. Thank you

I think by now he should be feeling better. I would call the vet and ask them what they think you should do.

Hi, It can take upto 7days for the effects of the shot to wear off.

Aslong as your cat is eating and drinking small amounts often then all should be well.
I would give him another couple of days monitor him carfully and if he is showing no signs of improvment then contact your vet.

You may also want to contact your vet just to put your mind at ease as with all vaccinations they can make all animals unwell this is due to the fact the shot is actually a small diluted live virus thats how the cats immune system becomes immune to the virus.
Same with humans that get the flu shot the shot is the flu virus itself.

one of my cats gets very ill from the feline leuk vaccine - she hasn't had one is about 5 years. I won't let her go through that again. All of my cats are inside only and not exposed to other cats so my vet lets it be up to me whether she gets the vaccine or not.

My other two cats don't have any reaction.

If your cat is inside only and there is no chance of exposure to cats outside of your own you might not want to let him have the vaccine again. It's not necessary yearly for inside cats.
