Hi Everyone, I've noticed that my cat pugsley, likes to pee on the carpet near the front door. Especially while I'm away for a couple of days. Is that normal? I've just started placing newspaper wrapped with aluminium foil on the spot that he pee...hope that works!!! Fingers crossed. Another question which is not so serious, kinda curious.... whenever my cat is drinking out of his bowl, he's likes to "paddle" kinda like he's running and drinking at the same time...anyone's cat has this habit? Thanks!!! IP: Logged |

Hello. Welcome to the site. Does your cat only urinate when you have been gone or does this happen when you are home as well? If he only does it when you leave, it's most likely due to him being upset with you for leaving. If he does this while you are there as well, he may have a UTI (urinary tract infection). In which case he would have to go see the vet to get meds for this. It is not expensive to treat. However, it will not go away on it's own and must be treated with meds. Cats with a UTI will associate urinating in their litter box with pain. So, they will find other areas to urinate. Other times the UTI is so severe that they simply can not control where they urinate and end up going all over the place. Are you gone often? When you are gone is there anyone to check up on your kitty? Do you have other cats? If you are gone often, you may want to consider getting one more cat as a companion for your kitty. As for cats pawing at the floor, it is fairly common. A lot of us here have cats that do this. Long before we domesticated cats they used to bury their food so that other predators could not find it. So, now our domesticated animal friends still have this instinctual habit of pawing at the floor as if they are trying to 'bury'. I have also read that they may do this if they are not pleased with the food you are giving them. For example if you give your cat a food it does not like it will paw at the floor to 'bury' it and hopefully you will give it something else. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your reply chessmind!
No, I'm not away all the time...probably once in awhile and usually for the weekend, and I do have someone to come around to play with him. My friend did mention that he was not playful for that two days while we're away. So I gather it could be seperation anxiety?!?! Oh, I've just bought this product called Feliway spray...do you think this might help too? Thanks again for all your help ! IP: Logged |

Hello. A lot of members here like Feliway. I've never used it myself, but others have and said it works great. I'm glad you're going to take your kitty to the vet. Yes, he may have seperation anxiety. Cats generally do not like it when we are gone. Or he may not be feeling well. Keep us posted. IP: Logged |

When you leave for a few days does someone come in and clean the litter tray? Maybe he doesn't like going in it if it isn't clean. IP: Logged |

A few weekends ago my husband and I left overnight for the first time since having Hunter...well we usually take him with us on weekends when we go away, but we were going to a friend's house that has big dog. When I got home and was unpacking I noticed a wet spot on a pillow that we keep on the floor...well the older cat has never tinkled on our stuff, so I guess it was Hunter's way of saying "Don't leave me overnight again lady" IP: Logged |
