Should I be able to feel my cats microchip? There is a rice shaped something on her shoulder...I only noticed this when I shaved her trying to get all the mats out. I adopted her recently so shes an absolute mess. IP: Logged |

I wouldn't worry if your kitty is a bit scrawny because she has been in the rough a bit lately she might be missing a bit of fat around the scruff of the neck, or simply the microchip is close to the top of the skin. Also if you are regularly brushing her and holding the skin to stop pulling you are likely to notice it where other cat owners wouldn't! IP: Logged |

Thank you! I was scared at first it could be a growth and I wasnt sure exactly if you could feel a microchip or not. My kitty is very skinny from being in and out of shelters until I adopted her....she gets stressed easily. And I pulled around her skin on her neck when shaving her which is when I first noticed the little moving rice shaped thingy =D It feels weird! Im afraid it hurts her or something if I touch it when i scratch her neck! IP: Logged |

The microchip should be between the shoulder blades and normally I don't think you are able to feel them through the skin. My dog was mircrochipped and her chip actually migrated (which is very uncommon according to my vet) down to the front of her shoulder. I felt it when I was petting her and then took her to the vet to confirm that it was the microchip. The chip was not removed and has remained in the same spot (and does'nt appear to be causing any pain) where I can still feel it but the vet did insert another chip in the correct spot. IP: Logged |

I can feel my cats and dogs microchips too. I saw them inject them between the shoulder blades, but they have migrated. Many of mine are off to ones side, closer to their neck. Jenny IP: Logged |
