This just happened an hour ago and I had to share.... I woke up at 6am to hear the faint sound of my kitten meowing. This alone was strange because she never meows, she always only makes that trilling noise. I ran around like a mad woman calling her name and trying to figure out where she was. Turned out she was in my sisters room inside of a closed dresser drawer. My sister had left for work an hour before and must not have seen her sleeping there when she closed the drawer. Phew...what a scare...now I'm laughing at myself and realize just how much I love my kitten. Now back to my kitten's trilling noises.....anyone else have a cat that does this as opposed to meowing? Her mouth stays closed when she makes this noise. It's called trilling right? I thought I had read that here before. I like it and I've never heard another cat do it so much as her. She does it all the time but mostly when we are playing. Well I'm glad I had somewhere to share my story at 7am. Have a great day all! trilling is generally a greeting. I am just sure she was trying to let you know she was grateful for being let out of the drawer. Though I would say whenever you put washing on make sure the kitty isn't in the machine too, you don't want your kitten to go through a spin cycle I don't think it would survive it! IP: Logged |

I have two kittens. My bengal mix makes that noise you are talking about when I am feeding her and when she greets me and wants some petting. My other guy just meows, I like the trilling noise, i never heard it before until I got Tristan. A week ago I was getting ready to leave and it was raining so i was getting a jacket out of the hall closet, well i guess i didnt see my kitty Bug slip into the closet and I closed it and left. Luckliy my boyfriend was home and noticed that Tristan our other cat would not leave the hall closet door, he finally opened it and Bug hoped out! If Tristan had not waited by the door for 10 minutes my boyfriend may have never known he was in there. Luckily everyone is alright. IP: Logged |

My two-year old cat trills all the time! Her purr is so faint that I can never hear it. So, I like when she trills. She does it when I get home from work, and basically any time she's not asleep. I've carried on conversations with her many times! Your kitten's lucky you were there to save her! All my cats have gotten themselves stuck at one point. It's good that we care so much and that we notice when something's different. My one cat (who's an indoor cat) slipped outside the door one night and got stuck outside all night. She was at the back door when I left for work the next morning and it gave me quite a scare! Luckily, she was unharmed. I'm very careful now anytime I open a front or back door to make sure the little bugger didn't slip out again. IP: Logged |

A few years ago I went camping (only had 1 cat at that time) and I left the bathroom window open because Tiddy liked to sit in it forgetting to close it when I left. Luckily, only a few minutes after leaving I realized I had forgotten something and had to go back home to get it...when I walked inside Tiddy was no where to be found. I called and called to him but he would'nt come and then I walked into the bathroom and found him shut in the window inbetween the glass and the screen. The window must have slammed down while he was sitting in it. I felt so horrible but was so glad that I ended up coming back home and found him unharmed. Otherwise, he would have been stuck there until my mother came to check on him the following day. [This message has been edited by nern (edited 02-05-2004).] IP: Logged |

My siamese mix, Eve likes to trill. She walks around all the time trilling. Luckily she doesn't cry like a lot of Siamese cats. Several of my other cats do it too, but not as much as her. Bebe likes to trill when she wants you to play with her. She will bring her toy then trill till you play with her. IP: Logged |

Blanche trills all the time. She especially does it when she is about to jump. It's a great warning system gives me time to prepare for her to land on me. I have a very similar experience. One of our old cats climbed into a drawer when he was a kitten. I heard this soft meowing over the T.V. and soon alerted the familly. It took 5 of us 20min too find him. We were convinced he had gotten into the celling (since he woouldn't be the first cat to this) and couldn't get down. I finally opened the drawer under the bed and he popped out, to harm done. My boy cat's form of communication is trilling. We converse like this a lot. He'll use different intonations of it depending on why he's doing it, like if he's irritated, suprised, happy to see me, etc.. He's always making me laugh. If he ever actually meows I know something's up. IP: Logged |
