I have 3 cats...I find that adding another isn't any harder than having only one. And I do think they enjoy the extra company rather than be home alone. IP: Logged |

I have 4 cats, but no dogs. When we added a cat to the family, it was less stressful on all when it was a kitten. I don't know how old your current cat is. I hear it's suggested to get one of the opposite sex because they'll adjust better. We have 2 boys and 2 girls with no problem. Our cats love each other. They play a lot and like it was just mentioned, it's not really any more work having two cats rather than one. Heck, we don't see too much work with 4 cats (although we smother them with attention.) While it's great to adopt older cats, I would also say in your situation, you may be better off with a young one since it will have to adjust to not only another cat, but your dogs. Maybe if you found an adult cat that was used to dogs and other cats, there wouldn't be a problem. But, we had to watch over my sister's adult cat for a time and my cats would not accept him, even after 4 months. We love having multiple cats and they are always entertaining. (Then again, I'm sure 4 dogs are pretty enetertaining!) Good luck. IP: Logged |

My cats really seem to enjoy each others company. Some cats are not so eager to accept newcomers though. In general, it seems to be easier for adults to accept kittens than it is for them to accept other adults. How old is your cat? Has he ever been around any other cats? thank you for all your replies dylan is 8 months old and he is a siamese cross birman and he gets on really well with the dogs which are a whippet(jed), lakeland terrier(taz),bedlington terrier(tilly) and an english bull terrier(molly), but now i might look to getting a girl kitten for a bit of company for him when the dogs are out IP: Logged |

Blanche is an only cat for 8 months of the year. For the other 4 months she spends time with my mothers 3 cats and two dogs. She doesn't mind the cats. It usually only takes a day or two for them to become re aquainted. She doesn't much like the dogs though. I gues they are too nosy. When she is by herself though she seems fine too. I have considered adopting a friend for her though. IP: Logged |
