Hello Folks: I am wondering what brand of cat litter people use? PS. I use Tidy Cats scoopable litter or fresh step. IP: Logged |

Relax, you can use any type of cat litter you want. I prefer the clumping or scoopable kind because it's cleaner and easier to change. The cat won't usually care, a box of playground sand would suit her just fine. As to the self cleaning boxes... forget it. They're a little misleading. You still have to change the litter completely every 2 weeks because of the bacteria. You wouldn't want to sit on a toilet that hasn't been cleaned in months, would you? IP: Logged |

I use regular Fresh Step and my cats don't have any issues with it. I would never use the automatic litterboxes...know someone whose cat got its tail caught in the rakes and there are people who say the sound of the rakes cleaning the litterboxes scared their cats so much they wouldn't use the box. I'll stick to to old tried and true plastic boxes. So I have to scoop - gives me a chance to make sure everything is working And imagine if a cat has "dire-rear" and having to clean that out of the rakes....ewwwwww [This message has been edited by MaryNH (edited 02-24-2004).] IP: Logged |

I also use Tidy cat scoopable. I just bought a small bag of Feline Pine to try again. IP: Logged |

Lol Nern. Good luck with that! I remember you said in another post you may just mix some in with the other litter. I personally, like that pine litter too, but I have yet to see a cat that likes it. There was one member here who said their cat liked it, but that's the only person I know of that has said this. The first time I got some for Handsome, he looked in his litter box and by the look on his face he was probably thinking, 'What the heck is that stuff??? I'm not going in there! You call that litter? I don't think so!' MyPetTherapyDog: I just have one cat, and I use Johnny Cat Litter. It works just fine for me and Handsome, but most people don't think it's that great. I don't like the powdery ones, because Handsome likes to dig to China when he's in there and it creates big dust clouds. I don't think that's healthy for him to breath in (just my opinion). i use just the wal-mart brand special kitty i think its called i just shake out as much dust as i can (there is not that much to begin w/) i have tried the crystals cat litter and my cats do not like it 4 some reason they have used it 1x and refused to use it after... as far as the automatic litter box goes i have had 2 cats affraid to use it and woudl go on the floor and the rest of my cats had no problem.. but my babies just like to get in it and dig they half the time dont use it.. like when i put fresh litter in they will gather around and just sit and dig 4 4ever...and w/ the automatic box it would drive me crazy hearing that thing everytyime my cats got outta it weather they went potty or not... my cats like the lil box houses type cat box i guess they need their privacy to....lol IP: Logged |
