A Conversation with My Cat

What world do you see under the black curtain of your eyelids?
What world do you see
When staring at me,
Past me,
With me?

What do you hear when I speak my foreign words
To you,
To others,
To no one?

We share a world of confusion.
Neither of us have a choice.
I see the evils people can achieve
To others
To themselves
To the world.
You see a place full
Of noises,
Light and darkness,
Of things larger than you.

Yet, when we connect,
When you purr on my lap
And I watch your vibrating white whiskers
With amazement,
When I feel the softness of your coat and heart,
When our warmth melts into one being,
Our confusion…
Our worlds
Drift away
Like departing storm clouds
Leaving an untouched sky – clear and tranquil
Until the next moment butts its way in like a little sister
Breaking the bond we created and an instance.
