my moms cat spunky got hit by a car today and passed away.. she is normally an indoor cat (has been 4 4 years) and for some reason today she snuk out the front door.. we chased her everywheer tring to catch her and she would just run from us... which is not normal she loves my mom to death and when ever my mom calls her she starts running to her...we tried 4 hours to catch her and then kids in the neighboorhood came and told us that our cat was crying and laying by the side of the road that someone in a van speeding down the raod hit her( speed limit is 15 here)they slowed down looked out the window and took off agin hitting her once more.. by the time we got to her there was no hope... we r going crazy trying to figure out why she wanted out so bad she neevr tried to even attempt to go outside b4...i have called the law over here to get the speeding takin care of onmy road since we not only have animals but kids that play... the road we live on is a priviate road but ppl still come flying down it....i have 5 cats of my own and they r aloowed outside during the day and have to be in at night they get put in the backyard where it is fenced in so high that they cant get over it but im not alowing them outside anymore its gonna be hard 4 them but its to hard to lose one of them like our spunky.. my kitty garfield just got hit not to long ago by sneeking out the fence from a hole that a dog dug under it... spunky was my moms baby she came to us 4 years ago... it started out when she would sneek in the door when she was a kitten to eat cat food and ended up never leaving just made herself at home a year after my moms cat punkin died that looked identical to spunky except he was a regular domestic short hair and spunk was a manx min w/ no tail everything else was just alike other then being punkin was a male and spunky was female..... sooo im just trying to cope and needed to get it out... if anyone has any advice on why she might have tried to get out so bad when she neevr did that b4 plezz let me know..we r going crazy tring to figure out why....she was not sick we had just takin her to the vet 4 her yearly a week ago and she didnt show any signs of being sick since then and the doc said she was healthy....

I have no ideas about why she might have wanted to get outside after all these years but wanted to say that I am very sorry for your loss

I am so sorry to hear about Spunky. We lost a cat this weekend (Batty) for senseless reasons too. I feel your pain... literally. Our vet sent us a card that said, "her paw prints will forever be in our hearts and memories, sorry for your loss" I extend the same words to you and your mom.

thank u guys 4 all the support...mojo i am sorry to hear about ur loss also...its a hard thing to deal w/ but when u have an animal u have to expect that kind of stuff weather u want to or not... my mom says she refuses to get another cat b/c it is just to hard but who knows i believe that spunky was pumpkin comming back to her in a different body.. thats just my opinion.. sooo i know she will come back.... my baby garfield is my jason that died in november 2002 garfield is identical to jason in every way!!!!

as of an hour ago we had animal control come to our front door..my sister in law works 4 them and had told them what happened to my moms cat.... well they were asking ? wanting to know what was the make model and color of the vehicle and how many ppl were in it and what exactly happened...i told them that 2 kids in my neighboorhodd had seen it and told me that the van was speeding down the raod and hit her then slowed down and then ran over her again that i didnt really go into to much detail w/ them b/c i was already to upset...well i guess my sis in law had already told the officers the 2 kids names and the officers had went there 1st well the kids told them that they seen a green van speeding down the raod and my cat tried to run across to come home when they hit her that they swerved to the side and hit her in the back then they slowed down backed up seen what they did ran over her again then went forward hitting her once more so they hit her 3x anyways the kids also told them that the kids in the van were laughing the whole time they were doing this and then they left sooo now animal services is wanting us to press charges aginst the kids (i guess they found out who the kids were that did this) all i knwo about them is that they r all 19-23 years old... and that there were 5 kids... we r still deciding on if we want to press charges or not we dont wanna get more stuff started... but to me they knew what they were doing they hit her 3x i mean if it was once and they didnt mean to do even though they were speeding then it might have been different but they meant to...sooo im all 4 pressing charges on them but as 4 my mom she sont know if she wants to or not... what do u guys think we shoudl do???

I would press charges.

By not pressing charges your sending the message that it was okay so they wont hesistate to do it again. By pressing charges, wether or not they are found guilty, they will definitely think twice about it.

see i want to but my mom dosent know what she wants to do sooo... im trying to talk her into it i dont think its right either 4 them to get away w/ it.... i just dont see how ppl can be so mean...i know of many of times when any animal dog cat rabbit raccoon etc.. runs out in front of me there have been several times i have almost wrecked trying to avoid them i can not see why someone would wanna do that to someones pet let alone any animal...but im trying to talk her into it so hopefully she will animal services is supposed to come back saturday to deal w/ some abused animals somewhere over here by where i live so they said they woudl come back by...
