i'm curious if a dog that's black can turn white because my max is changing colors his ears are turning almost white and his face has a redish tint to it now.he's getting lighter in many places. IP: Logged |

iluvmypup.. my guess it that max's mom or dad, whoever was the poodle, might be a silver poodle and not a black one (if i remember he is a shih poo).. bella is definitely more of a grayish/silverish black than a true black/black like she was as a pup.. her face also has a rusty tinge to it.. i have tried everything i can think of the make it a true black/black, like changing foods, frequent face washing and purified water; but i believe that the rusty color is due to the chlorine in the water she drinks.. i give her only brita purified water, but that has small amounts of chlorine as well.. bella is now just over a year and is no longer getting any lighter.. but as a small pup she was completely black (with her white chest, paws, and chin) and now that black is not as deep of a black but more silverish in some places than others.. hope this helps, maybe it'll be the same for max IP: Logged |

thanks bellasmommy that's probably it because his mom was a black and white shih tzu and his dad was a silver poodle. IP: Logged |

Now you guys realize that with poodles their colors almost always change. A silver poodle almost always starts out pure black. and within months they can be all silver. The apricots end up light almost cream. Then there is the blacks that have the brown overtones and the blacks that have the blue(Yes I said blue), over tones chocolate browns that end up a litter cafe color. So my anser is yes you black dog can turn white(silver and they are so pretty when you do this. Its wierd, you can have a dog that has hair a coulpe of inches long and take him in to get groomed and he will look like a different dog completely. After the puppy coat of a black turning silver grows out then its a silver. I have seen one in sequence from a young puppy to 1 year old. It is an amazing thing to see, especially put in photos where the change is so obviuos. IP: Logged |
