Hi everyone, Would love to hear what people think about dressing their doggs up in little jumpers, t-shirts, coats etc.. I always wanted a small maltese and had said i would do the 'girlie' thing and dress her up and put the little bows in her hair but when we found out Bella had a serious heart murmur and were told she many only live a few weeks none ot that seemed 'right' anymore. Bella is now 6 months old and seems to be doing really well, i know her murmur is still there but i feel so lucky to have her with me still and i do hope she will be with us for many years to come. At our last visit to the vets he said she was doing great and may even consider spaying her at 8months! Its only early Aug but we are not having great weather in scotland, infact its pretty cold and the last few night Bella has been coming under the covers. Today when i took her out for her walk she seemed cold too. A friend said to buy her some jumpers and a nice warm doggie coat esp with the winter months drawing in asit does get very cold where we are Would this be nasty for Bella if i dressed her up to keep her warm? Does anyone else put little coats etc on there dogs to keep them cosy? ~ Shes very small for her age anyway and i think i worry about her more knowing she has a heart murmur, really dont want her to be cold. Would love to know what everyone else does Fiona & Bella IP: Logged |

I think Sweaters are cute and cozy on them. I'm planning on buying alex my maltese, a sweater or swetshirt for the "cold" days. And coats are cute too! ^.^ IP: Logged |

i have a little coat for Harley too. i put it on her when its cool and rainy which isn't until the winter months. i live in NC so its VERY warm in the summer. It took some time for her to "agree" to wear it though. the rest of you out there, do your dogs wear things willingly? Harley really doesn't. i even bought little boots which i really wanted her to get used to because of tracking dirt and mud in the house but there was no getting her to agree to that, i tried repeatedly. i bought her a raincoat because of all the rain this year...no go with that either, i think because it has an elastic band that goes under her tail and she doesn't like that at all. the little coat is about as far as she will let me go. but i know its much colder where you are bellauk--i would definitely get little Bella used to wearing a coat. they help keep them warm and dry and ilovemypets is right, they are adorable. Harley is about 12lbs and a little rough neck & is not as delicate as the smaller maltese. she looks like a princess because she definitely has more maltese in her than poodle, but she is such a tomboy---she cannot go outside without burying her face in the ground the entire time, even while going potty. she also loves to dig. we don't do the bow thing. they put one in her hair at the groomers once and while she looked absolutely beautiful that look just isn't her. but if you like them and bella doesn't object, i say go for it, lol. you'll know one thing, right? no matter how much time you do get to enjoy little Bella you know and she also knows that she is very much loved and taken care of and what time she does have is quality. you can't ask for anything more than that. i worry about losing Harley, i don't know why, but i did the same when my children were small. i guess you just love them so much you get paranoid they will get hurt, stolen or worse. so when i worry about losing Harley either now or later in her life i tell myself that we are providing her with a very good life where she is loved very much and she is very happy and i feel better. us humans should be so lucky, right? No, don't feel odd about it. Just about everyone I talk to that has a small dog, puts a sweater or coat of some kind on their dog. In snow even booties. I made my poodle a cloak type coat and she has two sweaters and a t-shirt type shirt. Do whatever it takes to keep her safe and warm. IP: Logged |

Thanks very much everyone for your thoughts, I think it would be a good idea to get Bella some jumpers and a coat for winter. The weather today is a little better....at least its not raining, but its still quite cold and again last night i ended up with Bella under the overs lol Thanks again IP: Logged |

Hi Fiona, I have a niece by that name. I went to Bella's website to check her out. She is very cute!! Isn't there anything they can do for her regarding the heart murmur? Such as medication or surgery? That is too bad that she has this problem. Hopefully she will live a long full life. Good luck! IP: Logged |
