I have a toy poodle and I love her. She is 10 inches tall and weighs only 10lbs. She is very loyal and intelligent. If your looking for a companion for life then a toy poodle is great! Here is a link to some pics of my baby Angel. http://www.geocities.com/nessa1880/Angels_photos.html IP: Logged |

It all depends on if you are into grooming. If you are then any of the poo mixes, poodles, maltese shitzu, lhasa apso , pekeines etc. are for you, if not maybe a sweet italian greyhound chihauhau, papillion, pug, theres more. Just depends on how much you want to take care of the hair. If you get a dog that needs clipping often then more than likey you will at least not have shedding hair all over. Dog that don't need clipping shed all over the house. It depends on which is more frustrating messy house with fur or just clipping. Hey Nessa, Angel is already 10 inches at the shoulders. She just may pass the toy size, but since her parents were toys she would be considered a large toy. Did you measure right at the top of her shoulders or her head. If its her head then that does not count. [This message has been edited by puttin510 (edited 08-07-2003).] IP: Logged |

Does it seem like she has long legs? Its probably that. You know for miniatures its the same thing under 11 inches and they are considered small mini's, over 15 and its a large mini. All because the breeding stock they come from are definate mini's. Also I learned recently if you have a standard that is short like over 15 to 18 inches or so, the name for that is Moyen. But when they are much larger I believe they are called giant. I have never paid attention to the high that a standard can get. All I know is its big. You know you have got to ask Donna at furkids to email you her story of how she got her silver toy poodle. Who by the way is a tad over 10 inches I think 10 1/4, or 1/2 something like that. It is an amazing story. Edited to say: mini is anything from over 10 inches up to 15 is miniature. [This message has been edited by puttin510 (edited 08-12-2003).] IP: Logged |

I would say a Yorkshire terrier, or a Maltese! For these two breeds be prepared for alota grooming. I think toy poodles are COOT too! IP: Logged |

Sarah, Yorkies seem to be from 4-8 generally. And Lol...I should have put another pic up because, in that picture of my maltese (Alex) I hadn't washed his face yet, and it was about time for another bath so the tear stains did look in deed worse. As soon as we get our digital camera back I will take more pictures of him cleaned up! But they are about the same maintence of a Yorkie. I bathe mine once a week and I try to wash his face with a warm cloth everyday. If you want to find some more info on them try this site. Just look up the breed you want. www.AKC.org IP: Logged |

I've hear that with dogs that get the eye staining that if its not cleaned it can get infected. Something to do with yeast I believe. IP: Logged |

Puttin and Nessa, there can be Toys and Minis in the same litter. I had a Toy once whose brother was a Mini. Anything 10 inches and under is a Toy, 11-15 inches a Mini and above 15 inches a Standard. How old is Angel Nessa? If she goes over 10 inches she would be considered a Mini. Ten pounds is kind of big for a Toy too. Who cares if she turns out to be a Mini though. I'm sure you will love her just the same, right? IP: Logged |

I realize they can be different sizes form one dog usually not a huge difference.I know all about the sizing scale. I think if you were to ask a toy poo breeder what they called their toys over ten inches they would call it a big toy and so on. Especially to someone who really wants that toy size. That is just more on the technical side.I was told this by a coulpe of poodle people that are very much interested in the poodle world and both own two standars. So I trust them. But If I were to look at any poodle and measure it I would go by the scale. I really don't care either way. I like the mini's on the smaller scale rather than a tiny toy. Too fragile. IP: Logged |
