I think she's a little better today, if not I'm going to take her to the vet. Does anyone know if any dog virus is going around and do dogs catch them like humans? Cold, Flu etc. She has had the runs for two days now and the first night I got up every two hours to check on her. The poor girl had the runs and she threw up everytime she went. Her stool is starting to firm up a bit. I wanted to give her another day since my vet probably thinks I'm a nut. Any time my dogs even look remotely sick I take them in right away and it turns out that it was nothing or just a passing bug. She has not thrown up since yesterday morning but she's eating and playing. I noticed her naps are a little longer but she's still pretty active so I figured I'd keep an eye on her. I may just take her in to see the vet tomorrow just in case. She's eating drinking and playing even yesterday morning which seemed to be the worst of it she remained active. IP: Logged |

Miette is such a little doll! I hope she is feeling better! I just had Precious to the vet last week and my vet said that dogs do have colds and pass viruses just like humans. I would say that if she is drinking and eating well, then she should be fine. Keeping them hydrated is a real concern but it sounds like that is not a problem. If this is a virus she should get over it in 4 days. But this is coming from a layman. I hope Miette gets better soon! Precious's Mommy, IP: Logged |

I heard a few weeks ago there is something spreading. It is simialr to parvo but not parvo. It is very dangerous for puppies. I can't remember if it was online or in the newspaper but I know I read it. On the dog forum there have been a few deaths of puppies with similar vomiting and diareaha. Be very careful, bring her in to be safe. Who cares if someone thinks your'e nuts. ------------------ IP: Logged |

There are several types illnesses that dogs can give to other dogs that are viruses and have symptoms very similar to parvo . Campylobactor is one and can be passed in the air as flus are passed ,birds cary it from place to place .I would get some celphelexin from my vet ( it is an antibiotic) and give a large dose to start with and then give fluids and kyopectate for the runs and vomiting .Keep giving the antibiotic until the virus is under control as in about 7 days ,also have a fecal done and check for coccidia and other viruses .I have one that has some loose bowels ad I am keeping an eye on him .He is not sick in any other way but I have started all on Albon and on kyopectate just in case .Also dogs can catch colds and flu and other illnesses from humans and other animals as we can from them . I've been cleaning up Miette's poo and vomit all night. she's barley 7 lbs and she surley excreted about double that in weight. I know her little bottom has to hurt. I called the vet and he seems to think it because of the christmas tree. Her poo is very dark dark green almost black. She's not acting sick but he prescribed some medicine for me to pick up today. Plus he wants me to put her on a blan?? Diet? He said boiled chicken and rice in small amount several times per day. Thanks for all the repsonses we're still not sure if it's a virus but right now we are going with the Christmas Tree Theory. She has been caught nibbling on it a few times and that's the only change in the house. IP: Logged |

Rene any update on your puppy? It's so scary when they are sick cause they can't tell you where it hurts or what the symptons are. I'm so glad I'm off work this week, I would have really been distracted thinking that I'm at work and she may be in pain till I get home. Thank Goodness it's Christmas Week. IP: Logged |

Miette is doing much better. It's the thrid day of the Bland Diet and I've been giving her the medicine from the vet. I think she was able to finally pass the problem. It appears that in addition to eating the christmas tree she also ate some of the decorations. I decided to do a fruit tree this year. Most of my decorations are apples, grapes etc. The grapes look like real bunches of grapes and they are soft to touch. This morning when she came in from the back yard she had what appeared to be a long strand of chrismas grapes hanging from her bottom. I litterally had to pull the rest of the length out of her about six inches total (yuck). Yes gross I know but she is doing much better. no more throwing up and her nose isn't stone dry anymore Renee I'm so happy your puppy is doing better as well. IP: Logged |

I know lol. She's feeling much better now. Now the only problem is trying to ween them off of the Bland Diet. I've been cooking everyday for the pups. I gave Miette a Doggie treat the other day and she just looked at it. Teddy even waited about 10 minutes before he ate his. I guess they were wondering what happend to the chicken and rice...LOL IP: Logged |
