Yea! Since today was such a beautiful day, I thought Ranger and I could go hiking. Well, when we got there, since he has been doing so well on his rope out front (I have been training him to stay in our yard and stuff, so there is a 60 foot rope in my yard that I can step on or whatever if he goes to far, and so that I can pull him to me if needed when I call him) I would let him loose. Well, first, he ran around a bush and I was worried sick, wondering what I had done, but then he came back and we were hiking for 3 hours! He had a blast, he would swim in the lake, 'chase' the boats, jetskies, and birds. (though of course he never caught them!). It was so much fun! I am so glad! I am noticing lately just how much progress he has made in his training in just this last month! IP: Logged |

Yeah, Ranger has gone a few times before, and he loves it! Of course, he likes to protect me from the other people hiking, and yesterday he 'protected' me from a biker! He is terrified of the things he 'protects' me from, running away if they get too close, but then he always comes back tail wagging with that look in his eyes that says, "Ha! I sure scared that away! Aren't I a good boy!" IP: Logged |

It is! For him and me! I no longer have to be pulled through all of the thorns that he thinks it best to go under, when I can only fit over! IP: Logged |

That's great!! How old is Ranger again? Don't get too lax - remember to refresh him on his lessons (staying with you, coming when called) often, so that he doesn't forget. Sometimes they get more daring as they get used to the freedom.

He is 9.5 months. Yeah, he still has to have his rope out front, and therefore has to come when called. It helps that he is a big chicken so he doesn't stray too far w/out getting scared and coming back. lol IP: Logged |

Jimiya, I was just mentioning to my husband the other day about what you just said because he said she took herself for a run and wasnt coming back when he called, so he had to start the truck (which means BYE BYE) for her and she came running home. I told him we really need to practice againmaking come when called e(well he does) honeybear IP: Logged |
