Well its now 11:43am, I have been online since 6am trying to help pass the time before I can go and get Laika, my new golden retriever puppy. Ive got almost everything for her, I am going down to the hardware store around 2 to get some wire to make her an indoor outdoor pen. I still need to get those puppy vitamins for her, but Im not worrying too much since the breeder is giving me about 20 or so. Her vaccinations are in place (as of yesterday) I have to take her to get her rabies shot, dont know when though ill ask the breeder. Well now all that is left to do is clean my room, take out EVERYTHING from under the bed so if she accidentaly gets under there she cant chew or swallow anything. Oh, yea and give Nana a nice good bath (shes gotten kind of smelling since its been raining) and explain to her for the billionth time that there is a new puppy coming home and she is friendly and they have to get along. I guess theres still lots to do, ill post pics when she comes home, that is if my digital camera decides to cooperate [This message has been edited by lanena322 (edited 03-19-2004).] IP: Logged |

Well congrats! I know I was excited and couldn't wait to get my new dog either!!! Now I've got plenty, an dmore....Remember, show both dogs EQUAL attemtion. Nala may feel left out and threatned for a while, and could turn agressive to the new pup.... IP: Logged |

Thanks for your advice. I have been teling Nana that her and the new pup will be equal, that none of them will get more attention. Nana does have a socialization problem, id say caused by being taken away from mom too soon and she is never around dogs. But Monday I went to the breeders and handled Laika and when I came home Nana got to smell me, she was slightly interested. Then Wednesday she came with us to the breeders and she looked at the puppy from a distance, when the puppy got too close she yelped and ran to me, but eventually she looked at her and sniffed her then totally ignored her which is good. I think it will be alot easier since Nana is still a puppy herself. I plan on crate training her so her overall training will be easier and also so that Nana doesnt feel her territory is being invaded since she is queen of the house and is allowed more or less a free roam of the house. I know she will adjust to the new pup but yes, she will need some time before she gets used to her. 2 more hours! Its 1:00, the breeder said 3 [This message has been edited by lanena322 (edited 03-19-2004).] IP: Logged |
