I need some advice please....I own a 16 month old Lab(female) we go to the dog park all the time. She plays with EVERY dog, there is never a problem. Even on walks she is VERY dog friendly...always wanting to play! Well the other day I ran into someone walking and there were two bulldogs...I made her sit stay which I always do when other dogs approach, and we were on the street and the bulldogs on the sidewalk. I started talking to the owner and my dog was jumping and barking with teeth bared...the bulldogs were making a lot of noise. The I rememebered one time at the dog park there was a bulldog and it came up to Winnie and she growled at it...I think b/c of the noise they make...she gets confused or just doesnt like it. Like I said before EVERY other dog we see this never happens...anyone else have this problem with Englidh Bulldogs? Is there anyway I can get her used to them and their noises? Thanks in advance -Margo IP: Logged |

Hi! I think that some dogs just don't like other dogs, and that's all there is to it. I wouldn't realy worry about it unless you are around them all the time. Because your dog is good with most dogs, makes me think she is well socialized. I would just keep an eye open when you're around dogs you know she doesn't care for. Sorry I couldn't be much help! perhaps someone else will chime in here with better advise for you. Good luck! Susan IP: Logged |

Hi, We have a one year old English Bulldog. She, and most bulldogs you will meet, are the sweetest, most loving dogs around. They love kids and they like other dogs as well. But they are very, very noisy. I know where Lucie is in our house before I even see her! She loves to socialize with other dogs, but she snorts and grunts, and I think it intimidates other dogs, unfortunately. At obedience class, she wanted to play with the other pups when we took a break, and the other dogs seemed to shy away from her because of the noises she made. I felt so bad for her! They are very sweet-natured dogs and have tons of loving loyalty and fun to boot....try not to let the noises scare you or your dog...it's how they breathe because their snouts are short! No, I didn't get the impression that you didn't like Bulldogs. Bulldogs have a face that you either love or hate and when one comes toward you with the face and noises, it's easy to understand that they might not be friendly. And Winnie is just beautiful! She looks very sweet and playful. I hope Winnie will get used to the noises and have fun with a bulldog someday! IP: Logged |
