I know that some of you bring fosters into your home and I was wondering how you would handle this. We are bringing our foster Chewy Rottie)home from the spca tommorrow. Our own little diva dog Sashka (Am Esk/Pap cross) only just tolerates him. We have been introducing the two of them for the last week. Sashka will play with him only if she can start it and then it ends when she says so. He is very respectful of this and backs right off when she growls, but she will if allowed be a bully. Chewy is going to be with us for quite awhile as he is having a leg amputated next week and will stay at least until everything is healed. How much do I let her push him around before I step in or do I just let them work it out for themselves?

Hi! That's so wonderful what you are doing! I would think that as long as she just bullies him and doesn't bite, that they should work it out on thier own. I was wondering though about his being dissabled and how other animals take that as a sign of weekness. I have no idea how that would effect Sashka, or even if it would....

Good luck to you, and I'm sure you will get more answers here as well...

Susan

Sashka hd a buddy that was a 12 yr old rottie. She picked him at the pound. Luke was very crippled up the last 6 months with arthirtis (sp) and she would lick his sore leg every morning as if to help him get going. I did she her lick Chewys bad leg just after they first met, but she is very leary of all this playing stuff. She also is a rescue dog She came from a puppy mill and is still trying to figure out the play stuf herself. Chewy is a very social dog that did have lots of interaction with other dogs early on. I just hate to think that this little brat is going to push around the rottie. (smiling a bit)

I have a Husky and two poms, at first they were all fighting for their position in the pack. Well not really fighting, just bickering. I only stepped in if someone was trying to hurt the other and I kept them seperate while we were out. They now get along wonderfully and are best pals! I hope all goes well for you guys. It is really nice of you to take in a disabled dog.
