Last night, I tried to put a 2.5" pleco in with my 6.5" albino oscar. I was told at the pet store that my oscar wouldn't try to eat the pleco because of the spikes. Well they were wrong! Just as we turned off the tank light the oscar tried to eat the pleco. We tried to get the oscar to let him go, but it didnt work. As of 8:00 this morning (8 hours later) the pleco was still stuck in the oscars mouth. My question is, will this kill my oscar or will he eventually digest it? We are very nervous that the spikes will kill him. PLEASE HELP!

My old oscar did this once but with a large cory cat. He kept in his mouth for many hours before finally eating it.

He should eventually spit it out or eat it. Wait a little bit longer and see what happens.

keep us posted!

I don't think it will hurt him. I've heard of oscars eating plecos before. He'll probably either spit it out or slowly chew it up.

going on 40 hours and it doesn't look like he's spiiting it out or eating it. His mouth has been open the whole time. He's not as active as usualy but he's still breathing. Any other ideas or reassurance that he won't die would be helpful. Thanks everyone!
