Hi All, I'm new to this forum Could anyone please advise what the ideal height for a horse for me would be - I am 5 foot 9 and a half (175 cm). Many thanks. [This message has been edited by Bo Forever (edited 03-19-2004).] IP: Logged |

I'd say nothing under 16 hands, 16.1-16.3 would probably fit you well. The height of the horse, and his bone structure should also depend on your weight (such as a fine boned TB vs a thick boned TB, or WB type) IP: Logged |

16hh is about right, THough you should try out all kinds of verious hights and statures to determine what horse suits you best, and what you feel more comfortable with! I'm 5'2" and Sassy is 14.11hh and We're great together! IP: Logged |

Thanks Berriano and Samsintentions, My next (unrelated!) question is: What breed of horse would be suitable for me bearing in mind I'm an averagely competent rider. I've heard good things about Arab and also Andalucian, just wondered if you had any tips. Many thanks IP: Logged |

The breed you get should depend on your preferences. Every breed has their high and low points, and most breeds are very versatile. What type of riding are you planning on doing? That can make some impact on which type you should begin looking at. IP: Logged |

What kind of horse do u want. Arabs r very showy & can b high strung. They always attract attention. I, personally would want a warmblood or a thoroughbred. The choice is up 2 u. look in2 different breeds & read bout them. Then make up ur mind. It also depends on what sort of competitions u like. If u like dressage, maybe a warmblood or hanovarian. They also make great showjumpers. If u like crosscountry, mayb consider a thoroughbred, because of their speed. Look in2 it & talk 2 other horse owners & do what u want IP: Logged |
