Hey everyone I had a question about my male Cockatiel. When ever he is in his cage (most of the time he is not) and I start talking to him, he gets off his perch and goes to the corner in the far left. The strange thing is, I am female, and he never does this when my fiancee talks to him. In detail, he gets in the corner and fluffs up, slightly spreads his wings, and sometimes rock side to side. Can anyone help me? I am totally lost, lol. Oh, and I hope this works, here is a pic of my bird, his name is Lil' Bug.
P.S. Sorry about the large pic . I will fix it soon. [This message has been edited by Amethyst90 (edited 07-24-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hi........... I have two Cockatiels, three parakeets (and four eggs, as of yesterday..lol) and a Timneh African Gray. I have a couple of questions for you. How long have you had the bird and will he let you handle him otherwise? Does he let your fiancee handle him? You probably know already that they usually bond with one person. It may be that he looks at your fiancee as his mate and you are off limits. If he is only showing that side of himself when he is in the cage, then it's probably just that he doesn't want you to take him out and will come out on his own when he wants to. They can be very independant. Mine do the same, at times, so I wouldn't worry about it. Also, they have been known to change partners, although it is said that they bond with only one person. Trust is a very big issue with birds, so just relax and enjoy talking to him and watching him. He'll probably come around when he sees you aren't going to try to push him into anything. Good luck!
