I found a Quaker with a broken wing in my yard last week. The Vet said he'll never fly again, but he's very healthy otherwise. The first couple days he was very docile. Now, he doesn't like being handled. He bites. I wear a latex garden glove to feed and add toys.

If your bird is healthy enough to defend himself in the wild you might release him. If not, let me know. I'm trying to make this little guy as happy as possible. He's lucky to be alive. It would be nice to have someone to write to who's in the same situation.

My quaker is 2 years old and I've had her since she was a little baby. She is very affectionate and fun however, very territorial. I will not put my hand in her cage to take her out and when her cage needs to be cleaned or have toys added she has to be in the other room with my husband. I have learned my lesson, trust me - hopefully that will help you out. Also one way you can try to win the little devil over is whenever you sit down to eat - give him a little something off your plate. Quakers can eat ANYTHING except chocolate and avocados. And trust me, my bird does. Sounds gross, but one of her absolute favorites is fried chicken. ha ha. Vet always complimented me on how healthy she is because I am mainly a very healthy eater myself (minus the occasional piece of fried chicken) and she eats with me every day.
