hello, I have a cockatiel for a week now, but he (or she) is not even screaming, not even he heard other birds.Is it normal to not say a sound? Thanks Cami IP: Logged |

Hi, Yeah this is very normal it took mine about 3-4 weeks before she started making any sort of noise. Males usually adjust to the new enviroment more quickly than the females.... I have 4 Cockatiels now 1 of which i hand raised from when he was 3days old he is now 7 weeks old.. I have had my cockatiels for over 10months and there is no stopping the adult males screeching hehehehehe. The female is quiet she does sing every now and again but not very often unless its let out the cage to fly about time... But i would not worry too much about your bird not making any noises it will in time, have you tried playing music all birds love music. Chatting to the bird every chance you get will help it adjust.... What colour is your cockatiel... The orange cheek patches are brighter and more noticable than the females hers are alot duller... mike IP: Logged |

Enjoy the silence while you can!! If your bird is male it is very likely that you will hear sound from him in about a couple of weeks.They are the loud ones. In the meantime spend a lot of time with it and bond your bird will become sweet and not bite much(i hope) I suggest getting it out for a while everyday for starters even if its just sitting on your shoulder for a minute.My male started squaking just after he became comfortable with me.
